I have edited a 2 hour family movie in Vegas 4. Do I now "Render to New Track" before I export it to DVD Workshop? Or do I have to convert the avi file to mpeg2 first? If so, how do I do this? Thanks, Alf.
Well you have several options, actually. One way or another, you are going to have to create an MPEG2 version of your AVI video. You could:
1) use Vegas to export an MPEG from the timeline
or
2) you could export a completed AVI and then encode it in a standalone encoder such as TMPGEnc, ProCoder, or Cinemacraft.
or
3) more efficiently than option '2', you could simply frameserve your project from the timeline to a standalone encoder ( http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51815 ), such as TMPGEnc, ProCoder, or Cinemacraft.
For the timebeing, however, I would suggest that you use Vegas's own MPEG encoder to export a nice MPEG2 directly from the timeline, which you can then import into DVD Workshop. The MPEG encoding engine which both DVD Workshop and Vegas incorporate is coded by Main Concept, and is quite a high quality encoder. Using Vegas's export dialogue, there should be an option to select MPEG encoding instead of AVI rendering. If you need help with suitable parameters (and this is very important for DVD authoring), then I am happy to help you out with that, but you should find a suitable template already available to you within the Vegas MPEG export dialogue.
Any problems, just repost here and we'll take it from there! :)
Good luck.
