analyzing interlaced mpeg2

Hi,
I've got some interlaced material here, and -referring to some posts which say that there's true interlaced and material only looks interlaced- I wanted to check if mine is really interlaced. I wanted to check this with "separatefields()" in avisynth. So I did and watched the .avs in Vdub. But I see no differences, no separated fields. Is this now a progressiv stream or what does that mean?
Any help would be greatly appreciated (this stuff is so confusing..!)

when you watch the clip, you are looking for combing (which is why you dont watch it with a dvd player hardware/software) like http://www9.brinkster.com/sportschook/?keepfishin.jpg , and if you dont see any of that, you either arent look in the right places, or the clip is actually progressive.

tmpgenc also has a interlaced detection thing in it (load up the wizard), but i havent tried it with a known progressive clip.

Okay thanks, gonna try with Vdub and Tmpeg, too. When I have a progressiv stream, which Tmpeg recognizes as interlaced I'll post it.
BTW, how do you analyse your streams, do you always load an .avs-script into Vdub and watch it or is D2A and Bitrate-Viewer enough for you?
