Subtitles in VCD- HOW?

Dear All,
I converted an .avi file to .mpg and I made a good movie, but I didn’t found how to integrate subtitles in VCD.
Could you please give a short cut or info how to do this?

only SVCD/CVd and DVD support selectable subtitles. you'd have to permanently insert them in the video stream if you want a vcd.

One very easy way to do so: install directvobsub, make your subtitle file the same name as your avi file & then just open the avi as a video source in e.g. tmpgenc. Subtitles will be encoded right into the video ...

If you don't want to reencode, there is a way, little bit tricky and your DVD player must support the result ;) . Demux audio and video as mp2 and m1v files. Mux with bbMPEG as SVCD. Probably you have text subtitle file. Use some program (there are a lot) to convert the sub file to .ssa format. Then use Maestro SBT to conert .ssa to submux .sub format. Mux the subtitle stream with Winsubmux. Then author as SVCD with VCDEasy and burn. Tova e. Aide chao.:p

I've just tried doing this with a French film and it didn't work.
Film file = frenchfilm.avi
subtitle file = frenchfilm.sub

They are both in the same directory and the subtitles work when the film is played with Media Player, but they do not encode as I think you are suggesting. What am I doing wrong here?

it worked for me, but i did convert my subtitles to *.srt format for some reason i can't remember.
