Starting today when I put a DVD in my drive a program called dvdplay.exe starts to play it. I have never seen this program before and did not install it (or any other software) since my last time playing DVDs with PowerDVD. dvdplay.exe seems to be a MS program, residing in the WINNT\system32 folder. How did this all of a sudden hijack my system? How can I safely get rid of it? Where did it come from? I am running W2K with service pack 2. I have not been to the Windows Update site in quite some time as well. Thanks.

its been there for a while, they have been including those since windows me I believe. it was mostly to be used along with a hardware decoder. I would just put the association back with whatever you like to use. Deleteing files, even ones you never use is never good.

I did put the association back to PowerDVD, but when autoplay is disabled dvdplay starts up. I have had this system for over a year and never had had this problem until now.
