Can Mpeg1 be converted to MP4 ?

I am just a novice and have been creating MPEG1 movies using Dup-DVD. Can these MPEG1 files be converted to Divx/MP4 ?

Also I downloaded the newest Divx product thinking it would encode Divx/MP4 and it appears to just be a player. What is the recommended product to convert MPEG1/MPEG2 files to DivX/MP4 files ?

For conversion from format to format, you might start with Doom9's format conversion guides (//http://www.doom9.org/conversionguides.htm). You'll find a VCD -> DivX guide there, which is a little outdated. You could review the current DivX 5 Gordian Knot guide for updated information....Sorry if this has already been asked and answered....You must always look for a guide, FAQ, or previous forum discussions before asking.
