I am using a Medion 2001 motherboard, latest BIOS ( OEM version of the ASUS CUV4X ) with a Celeron 1,1Ghz, 256MB, Soundblaster Live ( SPDIF out ), ATI Radeon 7200, Realtek Network Card. The chipset is VIA 694X / 694Z.
Software WinXP corporate. Zoomplayer 3. ,ffdshow , AC3filter 068b.
I use only the SPDIF digital out to go to an external soundprocessor.

This Hardware / Software setup - except ofcourse for the MB + CPU - works well on K7s5A + Duron 1,2 GHz.

On the Asus Board all AC3 (DTS or other true sourround )movies tend either to stutter or the video scenes stop and then are sped up to get sync again. Non-AC3 movies are perfect.

With a fresh installation of XP and another Graphic card ( Nvidia ) it seems to happen less often, but when I add the ATI card, it gets worse. Also when I update to XPSP1. CPU utilisation is around 25 .. 50 %, so that is not the problem. I tried the latest 4in1 Via patches, also a pci latency Via patch, but none really help.

Instead of the AC3 Filter I tried using the AC3 splitter (mpgaudio.ax) and the Intervideo audiofilter, which improved slightly but did not solve the problem.

It seems strange that the extraction of the AC3 signal and passing it to the SPDIF out is such a problem - When I switch to 2 channel-stereo everything is ok.

I have searched the forum but did not find a helpful hint. Maybe one of the experts can help.

Thank you!

( Rather frustrated after the 10th XP installation from scratch! )

Try waveout or reclock as the audio renderer.

Dont use AC3Filter.

For me personally i had the same problem, stuttering.
I think its a lack of performance on your system.

I have P3-800, old Asus Board, 512mb, Win2k-SP3.
With AC3Filter (no matter which version...),
almost no ac3 movie will play normally, dual-ac3:
total fuck-up. With Intervideo AC3-Decoder, no
problems at all. I am always using this one for now.
Even if it doesnt have some fancy menues and so on.

But i am absolutly no expert. Maybe you should ask
around in #doom9 on EFnet or contact Valex (the author
of AC3Filter)... i dont know. Thats just how it worked
for me.

The problem may also be down to the encoder software you used to create / mux the file.

If you used say, TMPGEnc. Iv'e found it quite often creates audio and video sync problems. When playing files via an Sigma Xcard.
