View Full Version : Standalone DVD Player plays MPEG files?
Most standalone DVD players these days play MP3 audio files that are burned to a CDR. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any DVD Players that can play video MPEG files (either MPEG1 or MPEG2 or preferably both). In other words, are there any DVD Players that can play MPEG files burned to the root of a CDR that are not true VCD or DVD, but just regular files. I don't see why this feature shouldnt exist.

I've been after a DVD player for some time, that can play back raw Mpeg1 and 2 files.
Have you tried any raw Mpeg1 and Mpeg2 encodes at 720x576 PAL @ 25fps. This is the size I use when displaying video, on plasma screens at exhibitions (sadly not in Brazil).
It would be fantastic if I could create short video files (at full resolution) and put them onto CD-R/RW instead of DVD R/RW.
Here's hoping!

yes, it works with "raw", "only video" and "strange" streams (it works even with "crap muxed files" , i frame only videos, many resolutions sizes (but not "non-normals" sizes, like 288x384).
i belive it works too with 720x576 PAL @ 25fps, because it supports too PAL (BRAZIL ARE PAL-M) i have 2 pal dvds, and i belive it works with these streams in cd, because it play ALL streams i ever made.
i have lots of cds whit trailler from dvd, videos, mpg1, mpg2, only audio, bad videos, and it plays all... olny make a wrong screen if the resolution of video are uncomon.
i really not find a better player here in brazil, are others brands here are crap, trust me. philips, here, is the king.
