View Full Version : Mono Linear PCM plays at double speed

Hello all,

I've got a dvd I'd like to rip to DivX that only has Linear PCM audio.
I used GKnot 0.28 and DivX 5.0.2 Pro. The picture quality came out very nice but the audio sounds like the chipmonks.
How can I fix this?

Please forgive me if I've posted in the wrong forum - I figured I'd post here since I am using the new GKnot.
Also before I get yelled at - I did do a search (is why I don't have very many posts here because I do search a lot) but none of what I found appeared to be the solution for my situation. (For example - someone wanted to save only the audio ect. - that's not what I want.)

I hope this is the right log file:

Try playing the original wav and/or mp3 file on its own and tell us if they have the same problem?

Yes, both the WAV and MP3 files sound like the chipmonks.

Edit: I just tried using SmartRipper and the WAV file that produced also sounds too fast :(

Whats the length audio and video files?

Wow that's way off isn't it?

Can you play the vobs in something like media player classic and look at the audio output filter (eg directsound device) and see what it says the sample rate is.

Ok in Classic Windows Media Player, playing the first VOB it says:
Audio Stream Information:

wFormat Tag 1
nChannels 2
nSamplesPersecond 4800
nAvgBytesPerSec 192000
nBlockAlign 4
Rate 1.00

The rest of the VOBs all say the same as well.

You have a mono audio stream what dvd2avi incorrectly identifies as stereo.

A few different ways exist to get around this. Try searches for one/all of these and select the method you prefer.

pcm mono
lpcm fast
pcm fast

Thanks :)
This one seems to be along the same lines of trouble I'm having:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30302&highlight=lpcm+fast
Is there step by step directions for this method?

Of course doom9 has a guide...

Well, I fiddled with Graphedit ever since my last post and that sure didn't work at all :(

Following the directions in the guide was rather tricky -
Set up instructions say "VFAPI: Pretty simple, after you extract, run vifpset.bat in the Codec subdirectory to set it up"

There is no codec subdirectory in Graphedit
So I just extracted the files to the Graphedit folder and ran "run vifpset.bat" from there.

Moving on,

- I used the "Microsoft Graph Editor" method since the other one is listed as not supporting PCM.

"Start Graphedit. Click on File-->Render Media File, and choose your first VOB file."

Great! The audio played back normally - I'm in business, or so I thought.

There was no "InterVideo Audio Decoder" to be found anywhere in Graphedit like the guide called for so I decided I'd go ahead and use the power dvd audio decoder since Power DVD does play the DVD fine and followed the rest of the directions.

All I wound up with is an 800 and some odd MB WAV file that wouldn't play in *any* player I tried.

I checked out Nicky's site and saw that they had the ax file for "InterVideo Audio Decoder" so I got that from there, extracted it to GraphEdit folder and registered it and tried again.

Now all I get when trying to re-follow the first step in Doom's guide:
"Start Graphedit. Click on File-->Render Media File, and choose your first VOB file."
Is the same chipmonk sounding audio

:(

You're a sweetie :)
I found this thread:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28512&highlight=mickey+mouse
And tried using SmartRipper, Stream Processing, Demux to extra file like that person did but still did not get the proper audio :(

This is really wierd.

Ok this is what i did

File-render media file and select the vob file. This gave me a graph which used the cyberlink audio and video decoders to play the vob.
At this point press play and make sure the graph works corrrectly

I deleted everything that came out of the video pin of the mpeg-2 splitter. And i deleted the directsound device.

Graph-insert filters and open directsoundhow filters
insert
1) "file writer" it should prompt you for the output filename (.wav)
2) "wav dest"

Now connect the audio out pin of the cyberlink decoder to the "wav dest" in pin and the out pin of wav dest to the file writer in pin.

You should now have a graph like this
File Source (has your vob name in it)---------mpeg-2 splitter-----Cyberlink audio decoder ----- wav dest ------ file writer.

Press play.

I suspect some where along the line of registering those things - I must have some messed up registry entries or something.
I can not get the audio to play correctly at all now on this first step.

Deleting Graphedit and un-packing it and registering again didn't fix the problem.

try unreging the intervideo stuff you got.

DaveEL

that or construct the graph as above by hand.

Thanks soooooooooo very much for all of your time and patience with me!
I'd like to try both.
How do you un-register those things?

I'll sing it from the roof tops :D
I've now got the audio together with the video and it's perfect - in sync and everything. Now my angry villagers who are gathered together eagerly awaiting a lynching doesn't sound like the chipmonks :D

Thanks so very much!
