ffdshow?

not sure where to put this so i've put it here.
ffdshow allows me to watch vids without the codecs installed is their any point then in installing the codecs themselves i divx5pro or xvid etc

You don't need to install the codecs, and you can find a lotta info about ffdshow in the xvid section.

You need the mpeg4 codecs only if you wanna encode. For playback only, ffdshow is more than enough.
