View Full Version : oversized files?

i am getting really oversized (>10%) files with xvid (koepi's most recent), using it with gk 0.28.
i just switched and did not find much in the forums besides some older b-frame issue, so i guess i must be doing something wrong ... any help would be appreciated (got to admit: it is only one movie i am testing with)
my settings (same for both passes):
motion search: 6
quant: h.263
vhq 1
max/min I: 300/1
lumi, cm
b-frame: 2/150/100/255 - packed, no divx comp (plays fine using ffdshow?!)
quant/2-pass: default settings, payback proportional
alt.curve: off
bitrate should be around 850 (640x336)

i did load default settings in the codec and deleted gk registry keys

in the xvid help it says (contrary to doom's xvid-guide) to disable lumi in the first pass .. could that be the problem? do i get oversized b-frames? i checked some keyframes, they seem perfect (a nice change vs. divx). or is this just a known problem when using b-frames?

Hi and welcome to the forums-

Try unchecking Packed Bitstreams and see if that helps.

2.may.. that's still the older build ? ..i used it always with lumi masking on in both passes and never had oversize problems

ok, it was as simple as what manono (thanx!!!) suggested: with "packed bitstream" disabled, size was fine, nice & clear rip - the switch to xvid was sure worth it (with divx5 i got loads of artifacts on this same movie/avs).
oh, to unmei: it is indeed, just saw the May 3 one ..
