I collected a bunch of boxing fights and I wanted to put them on a DVD-R. Now a bunch of them are .mpg, some are SCVD format and XVID format. I wouldn't have minded putting them on a SVCD but my DVD standalone drive won't play back SVCDs.
How do I encode these files so they play on my standalone drive?

xvid & divx : http://www.doom9.org/mpg/avi2dvdr.htm

if your player doesn't play svcd you may have to reencode the svcds anyway. Give it a try.

SVCD can be put onto DVD by just patching the header, or reencoding, the reencode method is very similar to reencoding an dvd, just with a little avisynth resizing.
