I'm using the new Gknot .28 and so far so good. I just encoded my first Xvid movie and was pleasantly surprised with the results. Though, on dark scenes I was rather disappointed at the darkness of the frames. Any suggestions on Xvid configuration to possibly alleviate too much darkness in dark scenes.
My set up configuration was as follows:
Motion search Precision: 5 Very High
Quantization type: H.263
FourCC used: XVID
VHQ mode: 1
Max I-frame interval: 300
Minimun I-Frame interval: 1
Use Chromo motion: checked
Max B-frames: 2
B-Frame quantizer ration %: 150
B-Frame quantizer offset: 100
B-Frame threshold: 0
DX50 B-VOP compatibility: checked

Any suggestions on what can make dark scenes look brighter? I also used the Lanczos sharp filter as suggested in the Gknot guide. The movie I encoded was The Outlaw Josey Wales, approx 2:15 hours in length; I used 2 cd’s at a bitrate of about 1200kbps.
I know I need to learn more about what all Xvid has to offer, understanding, etc, though simple suggestions on configuration for brighter dark scenes would be appreciated. Thanks
