not sure if this is related..but I kinda think it is. For those who can't get Scenarist to mux / author their NTSC dvd2dvd-r project files to dvd try out DVDLab (final is out). Free 30 day fully functional trial.

Does anyone know if it is possible to choose the final size output in DVD2DVDR? for example: 2.1GB, so I could put 2 films on 1 DVDR.

It seems like most people having problems with dvdlab seem to be doing home project files. PCM audio and tivo and replaytv video files, etc. AC3 sound encoded with soft encode, etc.
I don't believe those using dvd2dvd-r have the same problems. As far as what I was referring to...yes it has been fixed (I believe). Anyway do give it a try. My whole computer took a dump so I get 30 more days to try out the dvdlab but I'm almost positive I'm gonna buy it for $79.

I downloaded/installed DVDLab1.1, then I proceded to follow the 'DVD2DVD-R/DVDLab' instructions given on your website 'verbatum' (2-3 pulldown checked, all flags checked, TFF unchecked, etc). All seemed to go well... the time display was correct, I can 'jump around' in the movie by any method with any player and NO freeze-ups, audio is perfectly in sync throughout... BUT I notice there are little stutters (a very brief pause followed by a quick 'hurry-up') seems like every time a scene shifts. You can only see this on scenes with fast movement (like people running, etc) and it is very brief... I mean, if you blink at the wrong time you miss it completely. I'm guessing its a 'flag' problem and as such I'll try doing the same movie using various combinations of flag settings checked/unchecked in DVD2DVD-R. I'll post back much later with my results (I'll be gone 'til Monday).
BTW, your website is fabulous... lotsa excellent guides there... I'm very impressed! (and very grateful too!)
I am having the same problem as monomer. I get what seems to be a little hurry up after scene shifts. Anyone else experience this? I am also using the guide on mr.bass website.

A quick fix - just one dll to replace:

Fix for Cakewalk made wav files.
Just replace the old dvdlib.dll with this one in the main dvd-lab folder
no clue if it'll fix the problem your describing. I'm gonna scrutinize my videos more closely and see if I can't see what your describing. In the meantime if you don't feel like screwing around just use scenarist to author.
One more thing to try is to burn with another app rather than directly with dvdlab and see if that's the cause of this.

Its not a 'flag' problem as every possible combo presents the same type of stutter. I'm now trying it with TFF selected. I will next try to install the update and give that a whirl. I'll post back here with my results.
Oh, and ...don't know about mnaz, but I've been burning with Nero. (In fact the stutter problem exists in the files before I even burn them... that should eliminate the burning program as being the possible culprit.)

Nothing I do fixes the stuttering problem when using DVDLab... so I guess that's another 'dead end' with DVD2DVD-R. However I have found that everything does work (except subtitles) with DVD2DVD-R and Scenarist. So for NTSC, this is the only combo that really works and thus I guess DVD2DVD-R is not quite a "one-click" solution for NTSC. Oh well...
monomer I think it is a muxing problem with dvdlab because i have it updated to the latest version and the problem still occurs. However, I have no problems with scenarist and dvd2dvd-r other than having the start sector wrong after the mux which I fix with ifoedit.

Hi all
I'm a newbie to this dvd2dvdr/CCE method and I've managed to complete my first project. Being curious, I used IFOEdit to check the ORIGINAL.IFO against the new one and noticed that the movie (PAL format) came out slightly SHORTER (01:32:36.18 vs 01:32:37.00 /25fps). CelTimes.txt had the correct info from the Original. Closer examination reveals that differences in times started from Chapter 22 up till the end (Chapter 28).
I'm not sure if this is to be expected as part of the re-encoding process. Because of this, I'm not entirely confident about using this method. Could the more experienced users please help explain what might be going on?
Also, regarding the multipass VBR setting, how would one check out the differences (2pass vs 3pass) in the final encoded result? Do you use Bitrate Viewer and see which has the higher bitrates?
Any feedback most welcomed, many thanks in advance.

I installed DVD2DVDr 1.4.9a (got the same error with 1.4.9) on my new PC (WinXP pro, SP1) and when i run the prog i got an error msg in German:
SystemFehler &H8007007E (-2147024770)
Anyone knows what"s this about?
PS: I"d encoded many DVD"S on my old PC with WinXP pro, SP1)...

I am using DVD2DVR-R in ifoedit mode, when the avisynth start creating and counting frames i recieved an error message "Unable to determine the Framecount". Has anyone have a solution?

Just check the subs you want on the 'subpicture' section in the first screen. Then press 'GO' and come back few hours later to burn the final product :)

When DVD2DVD-R finishes, what authoring program should i use to merge all the files?
Im doing only PAL movies and i'm usually using only the main movie, 2 audio tracks and 2 subs.
The posts i read here state that for PAL movies i can use IfoEdit?
Some off this posts referred to some problems with the subs, but i think that this only occurred in NTSC. Is this correct?

You CAN use IfoEdit with DVD2DVD-R and PAL projects. that's what I've done several times successfully.

Hi guys,
I just tried reencoding Gangs of New York, which is spread out on 2 discs, by ripping each disc individually using SmartRipper (files mode - whole disc), and then using DVDShrink to rip out audio and subtitle streams. I then had 2 discs, each with movie only, and then I put all the VOB's into one directory, renaming the second disc VOB's to continue after the first set, and then running IfoEdit 0.95 to create new Ifo's. Everything looked great at this point and I had the correct length and number of chapters, but of course the entire movie was now ~7.4 gb large.
At this point I tried to run the DVD2DVD-R/CCE method, and though the movie length was reported correctly, the VOB size showed up as only half the film, as if IfoEdit had never recombined the 2 discs properly, and DVD2DVD-R was only seeing one of the discs. I ran CCE anyway (I had to "force encoding"), and sure enough, when I was done, I had only half the film, but it was the second half, not the first. Does anyone know how to do this properly? Should I try crunching each disc first by "forcing encoding" and then combine them?

Ok, I found a workaround by demuxing all the cells using VobEdit and then rejoining clips on the demuxed cells. Then I used IfoEdit to create IFO's and now when I load the new set into DVD2DVD-R the time and the byte count are correct. I am running DVD2DVD-R/CCE as we speak, but I feel confident that this will work just fine. Here's what I found:
On the original discs, the chapters all used VOB-ID 1, cell #x (where x = chapter number), so when the 2 discs were combined, I ended up with the entire movie using VOB 1, but the cells were numbered 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 for the 25 chapters. As you can see, chapter 1 of disc one used the same VOB/cell ID as chapter 1 of disc 2, and so on. I don't know why, but this structure seemed to confuse DVD2DVD-R. By demuxing all the cells and then rejoining them, the newly created structure used a new VOB ID and Cell ID for each chapter (like 1/1, 2/2, 3/3, etc.) and DVD2DVD-R liked that structure a lot better.
The question still remains - Is there a better, easier way to do this? :)

So, how did you managed that? Are you talking about the completed movie by checking in the IFO? I was under the impression that dvd2dvdr/cce method always ended up with movie about 5-6 frames SHORTER.
Could someone please confirm/explain, many thanks in advance.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that the movie was the exact length. I just meant that I got the entire 2:46, not just 1:20 like in my earlier attempts. Since I had removed some black frames from each of the original discs, I really don't know if any frames were dropped or not.

I want to ask you if its possible to select a bitrate that produces a final DVD of 2.3GB instead of 4.7GB.
Dvd2dvd-r 1.4.9 don’t allow me to change the bitrate I want.

That´s right, you can choose the MB you want to reserv, so you can choose the GB of the final movie size.

Nope, it didn't work for me. I didn't get the same "out of range" error, but I got some other repeating error when Scenarist was done inputting the assets. This was just on one title title, though, and I'll be sure to try it again on another one soon.

How can I use DVD2DVD-R to encode a movie if the movie has less than 4.7gb. In that case the program says “no encoding needed”.
Is there a way to use the program in those conditions??

in the settings tab tick "Force Encoding" then in the Mpeg Encoder tab use the "MB reserved" buttons to reserve whatever you need to give the required final size.

just downloaded 1.5.0 on the website.
i am using it with CCE and CCE gets 80% CPU, DVD2DVD-R takes 20% WHILE CCE IS ENCODING (dvd2dvd-r should NOT use any cpu in this process).
please take a look at this problem, first version i have used, sorry if it's been said before.

I have done 3 movies and I have the same exact problem. Has anyone figured out a fix... or are you just using scenarist? Thanks for the update if any.
