Well, up until this afternoon I thought I was getting pretty good at this whole "ripping dvd's" thing. The guides on doom9 are relatively idiot proof, after all. Turns out I'm just the idiot to prove that wrong.
Here's the situation: I originally ripped "The Usual Suspects" widescreen with a 16:9 aspect ration in gknot. (The dvd is two-sided, with the first being widescreen and the second being standard.) Turns out that the widescreen side is in fact 4:3 letterboxed. No problem, I figure, I'll just rerip. I decide to cut out the extra step of ripping the audio and converting it to mp3 because the two tracks are exactly the same, right? Wrong. Of course they're off by about two seconds.
Long story short, here's what I have: the final file, with out-of-synch audio (soon to be deleted); the widescreen video-only file, with audio yet to be muxed in; and the vbr mp3 of the audio for the widescreen version. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get gknot to just mux the file without trying to encode anything! To top it all off, avimuxgui doesn't want to accept my mp3 (or maybe it's that I can't figure out how to open the mp3 in avimuxgui, whichever.)I know gknot muxes the audio and video using virtualdubmod - can anyone tell me how I can manually add the finished video and encoded audio and mux them together this way?
