Joining Svcd Files Help Please.

Ok i have a problem ,i want to join some svcds together so i can put a couple on dvd .Now im not converting,just joining the 2 AVSEQ01.mpg files together.I use Tmpgenc Plus > File > Mpeg Tools > Merge & cut.Now i join the two files together but once the new file gets to the join point the audio drops way out of sync,it sounds like 5 seconds have been removed from the end of the first file.

Any help please ....

Which "Type" of file did you select? It is better not to use "automatic". Try another type!

OR

I assume that you made a CD version and now want to merge it to one file? It is better NOT just to copy the AVSEQ files from a cd, extract it with the VCDEasy Tool and try to merge these files! It is not the same if you COPY or EXPRACT them!

Maybe this is the reason!?

I do a lot of splitting/merging...and found that TMPGenc was inadequate for the types of files I was working with. When trying to split an MPEG2/Ac3 file it just demuxed the audio out (after waiting 4 hours for the result), and half the .mpgs I'd want to join get "illegal MPEG" indications. I found other shareware tools that are cheap and can perform this function better...but am reluctant to break the "no Spam" rule. If you go to the post I made on "Shrinking VHS with TMPGenc" you can follow the links and find out what I use. TMPGenc is great software...but the merge/cut function is a bit buggy.

I'd skip the whole demuxing and joining part if I were you. There are too many uncertainties with the synch IMO. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I put LOTR (4 scvds) on a dvd and decided to live with the short pause/skip created by linking the files in my dvd authoring program. Just point the end of LOTR_n-1 to the beginning of LOTR_n and so on.

Don't forget to run the m2v:s through DVDpather so that your authoring program will accept the SVCD resolution. Converting the sound to ac3 is optional, but really mp2 isn't supported in the DVD standard (well neither is svcd resolution, so ...)

i usually use dvd-lab to join svcds. in fact they have a whole guide on their homepage (http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/tutorial/svcd.html). The only thing is that you need to convert the audio to ac3 with besweet. You won't need to patch the headers. Imo its an excellent authoring tool anyhow.

I really like the freeware MPEG2CUT for splitting...it has a screen and a slider that will quickly allow you to go anywhere in your video...and finer controls to move frame-by-frame to exactly where you want to cut. The freeware HJSplit appears to be an excellent joiner (I haven't used the split function), but you have to rename the files. The $20 Boilsoft AVI_RM_MPEG_WMP Joiner gives me seamless joins and is drag and drop simple.

Oh...and I've made close to 100 DVD's with .mp2 audio...they may not be dolby stereo surround sound...but I don't have stereo TV's anyway.

don't join. let your authoring software do it otherwise you are asking for sync issues - especially with TMPGenc.

I use TMPGenc to render the raw capture. It doesn't have a storyboard, therefore I need to join before importing. I do have synch problems...but its easily corrected in "source range". The resultant DVD's are as sharp resolution as the source capture (which is "lossless")...and the size of the file is 1/2-1/3 the size of the MPEG-2 capture (which means I can get a 3 hour movie that looks as good as the source VHS tape on one DVD disc.) Beats the heck out of rerendering something rendered in an inferior product.
