Hi,
I am experiencing a strange problem with the sound quality of VBR-MP3 encoded DIVX 5 films using standard GKnot procedures (ie using lame encoding with VBR 128 kps). When I play them with DIVX player (all versions including the latest 2.1) I get degraded and muffled sound, but when I play them with standard Windows Media Player the sound is good. Windows Media Player does not appear to use the standard Windows ACM output devices but is instead using its own MPEG Layer-3 Audio Decoder which on my system is Fraunhofer 1.5 (build 50). DIVX on the other hand appears to be using the standard output devices which on my system for MP3 are Fraunhofer MPEG Layer-3 Audio Decoder (advanced) 1.9 (build 305) and the Radium hacked Fraunhofer MPEG Layer-3 Audio Decoder (professional) 1.2 (build 32i), neither of which provides good quality.
I could, of course, settle for just using WMP but the video quality is not as good as DIVX (even using ffdshow), IMHO.
I have searched the forums in vain. Have anyone had similar problems? Presumably I need to update the ACM device?
/V.
