Anyone tried this yet? I love TMPGEnc encoding and will give this a try as time allows. I am pretty backed up and wanted comments from anyone with hands on experience of new offered authoring program from pegasys/ TMPGEnc.

very interesting imho. tried it yesterday and these are the things i like the most and cannot easily be done with other programs:
- edit the files before creating (cut out commercials and so on)
- join files to one movie (3 svcds -> dvd)
- import directly vcd and svcd files (resamples the audio)
- import dvb files directly
- very easy menu creation including chapters and preview pictures
- can import (including some editing) whole video_ts folders (havent tried this yet)

just the program i was searching for. lets hope they do the next logical step and include tmpenc into the program for reencoding if necessary.

Very nice, I think this is going to be the one for me it's so easy to use. It would be nice to be able to hear the audio when selecting chapters. I just Authored "Bullit" after capturing from tv in Divx. re-encoded mpeg2 with TMPGEnc setting up "I" frames where I needed them for chapter points. Setup menu and chapters in TMPGEnc DVD Author and it took just over an hour to compile on win2k 512mb ram 3.06gh pentium4 processor -- seems a little slow but results are excellent.

Zhnujm:
import directly vcd and svcd files

I had to patch the mpegs to 352 horizontal first. Followed by repatching back to 480 afterwards. Did you?

@ChrissyBoy

i tried it again and it seems only to work with PAL files. i could import a 480x576 dvb capture and a 480x576 svcd without problems but when i try a NTSC svcd theres an error message about the resolution.
maybe just a bug in the resolution checking for pal files ?
i will check if the results do work.

Took the mpeg2 file as is no problem 720 X 576 25fps 4:3 Dvd pal ---audio cbr layer2 mp2 48000hz stereo 384 kbps.

well, for PAL files the error comes when you hit the begin output button. so we still have to patch the files :(

ChrissyBoy

Yep & the whole file not just the first one as with most progs

you can avoid patching the whole file if you patch it to 720 instead of 352. worked for me. the resulting menu previews pictures are also correct if you patch it back before vob creating.

Sounds good. I'll give it a try. BTW every SVCD i've tried is out of sync... I gave up on TMPGEnc some time ago for demuxing & muxing. I could take 70% of my mpegs, demux it then mux it again with no other operations - and it would always be out of sync....

Maybe this is whats happening here as to resample the audio you need elementry streams....

the vcds i tried are fine but the svcd is out of sync. i think its the joining of the files.
i fear that it uses the same code for joining as the mpeg-tools, or as i would call them , the random stream desynchronisation tools. :scared:
but well, i mainly make dvb captures... no problems with them until now (tried 3 dvd = 6 movies)

--edit
not, its not only the joining. even a file that i have sucessfully joined with tmpegenc is now out of sync.
so i would say this program is completely useless for svcd to dvd transfer. ;)

I tried muxing .mpv from CCE and .ac3 and it worked good. However, no chapter import had to cut and paste each time frame into each add chapter area. No sub support either. Good for home video though.

I have created a dvd folder using tempgenc and a vcd mpg captured from my aiw 8500, I was wondering why it played fine on powerdvd but not in ifoedit? My set top player doesn't read -rw's so I was wondering if anybody else has tried this and what I may be doing wrong. Also I have not patched the video as I do not know if it is needed and also do not know how?

HEy

tried to put some vcdīs on dvd - all of them are out of sync (played back on Panasonic DV-R32). Still, programm looks promissing, itīs a nice straight approach for small dvd projects. Importing a DVD-titel was succesfull on first attempt.

so far i tested (2 svcds) the sync problems are gone if you reencode the audio to 48kHz before importing.

@dvd_maniac
you dont have to patch vcd streams, only svcd streams with non dvd compliant resolutions must be patched. you can use dvdpatcher from the download page for that.

if you reencode the audio to 48kHz before importing

you would have thought a piece of software from the people who make encoding products would have got this sorted....

@Zhnujm

tried to reencode Audio wit svcd2dvd-tool, but it doesnīt keep sync everytime and sometimes even refuses to process files (BTW - still a great tool!). Doing it manualy is a pai.. in the a.. if u do a lot of files. I did it once (DARIM demultiplex - besweet audio reencode - Ulead Movie Factory 2), still sync probs on some streams.
Seems, that different VCD-Files from different encoders and mutliplexers wonīt sync, but I canīt figure out the reason for this. dropped frames im Stream? no Sync-HEaders? donīt know.

exactly what i thought :D
funny thing is, i demuxed and converted the files with tmpgenc to 48kHz.

@ReinerSchweinlin
can you test one of these vcds with tmpeg demuxing&converting to 48kHz ?
just wondering if that would make a difference.

This new programme appears to be exactly what I've been looking for.

I encode my downloaded AVI files using DVD2SVCD with all CD sizes set to 4500, bitrate set to 8500Max, 300Min, 1600 Min.avg and 6500 Max.avg and CCE as the encoder. In the past, I have used IFOEdit's DVD author facility to multiplex the video, audio (file extensions need to be changed) and chapter files (I have 2 "celltimes.txt" files, one PAL and one NTSC which I use for creating chapters at 15 minute intervals). I then use Prassi Primo DVD to burn the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders to Ritek G03 Disks on Pioneer 104. This has worked fine apart from the known problem of IFOEdit NTSC DVD's having incorrect time display - and jumping problems at the timing points on YAMADA/UMAX 2100 DVD player.

I have tried TMPGEnc DVD Author on a good selection of movies - PAL and NTSC using the output files from DVD2SVCD / CCE as above. The video and audio files can be selected directly without renaming, and the chapter points can be selected very easily from within the programme. This can be done individually to frame level or x minutes per chapter, or split the movie into y chapters. My personal preference is for 15 minute chapters for simplicity and to allow rapid skipping through the finished movie, although I did set proper chapters for Fantasia 2000 to separate the movements. I select "No menu" and "Play only first track" to build a DVD which simply plays the movie, and then ends, although the menu option looks like childs-play.

The only problem I encounter is that I get an error message - that the total bitrate exceeds 9800kbps when I go to "Begin Output". I know that this is not true because of the CCE settings I have used so I choose to "ignore" it and everything works fine. I get the same warning message every time regardless of the actual bitrate, so I assume it is something to do with the difference between CCE encoded files and TMPEnc encoded files.

It is well worth downloading for free and trying for up to 30 days (fully functional). Unless I encounter any problems, I will definitely consider buying this product when my 30 days is up.

I too get sync probs with mpeg1 352 x 288 PAL material. The mpegs are in sync but the DVD-R is 1 sec -ish audio behind picture.

Funny that the first one I did worked fine...

i just make 8 super-simple dvd's with it, and works fine. tested on 7 dvd players (even the F**k brand Gradiente) and all works fine.

mpeg2 from cce and mainconcept encoders, ac3 from surround pack in vegas, a daikin ac3 encoder and sonic softencode... all works... ans no sync prob.

i like it, because i was seaching for a simple and fast mpg2+ac3 do dvd...
ifoedit allways make a crap thing, and i never used it anymore.

i belive it make a good compatible muxing, even with ac3, lpcm or mpa... i will use it from now.

I've been using this for a while and rather like it but... I still have a few issues etc.

Any know of a good BBS/formum where this prog is being discussed?
