What Athlon processor is equivalent to a 1.6 GHz Celeron??

Hi,

I'm condering getting an HP Pavilion ZE4210 laptop that has a 1.6 GHz Celeron processor. Does anyone know roughly what Athlon processor this is equivalent to? I have a 1.2 GHz Athlon Thunderbird in my desktop machine that I can use as a refernce. Thanks.

I have a home assembled computer with an Athlon XP 1900+, according to the speed tests I have performed using Sisoft Sandra, this processor is equivalent to a Pentium 4 1.6 Gigas.

I must also add that formerly I had a Pentium 4 1.7 Gigas and from my point of view, the Athlon XP 1900+ is similar in performance.

P.S.

The Athlon XP only supports SSE, an application coded using SSE2 crashes.

Get SiSoft Sandra - it has big lists of reference speeds for all kinds of processors, chipsets and memory types. You'll only need the benchmarks for memory, chipset, cpu and cpu multimedia, so you can use the free version of Sandra

Speed depends from used memory, motherboard etc.
Athlon XP rating shows that it is speed equivalent to same Mhz P4, not Celeron P4, what is always slower.

Actually the Athlon XP rating system is compared to the previous Athlons not to Intels. That's a whole nother barrel o monkeys! :D

Thanks for the replies. I was looking to see what the Celeron Mobile 1.6 Ghz processor was equivalent to.

Technically CaPPyD is right. The offical line from AMD is that the PR rattings are for their original Athlon. Of course that's just BS, since anyone can tell the PR ratings are closer to the performance of a P4 than what the original Athlon would scale to.

Here (http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1622) is Anand's article on the Cel4 1.7, It should give you a base to judge the 1.6Ghz. The 1.3Ghz Duron seems comparible to the 1.7Ghz, but there are large variations between the two depending on the test.
