Help with WinTV card stopped working right for capture

I have a Happague WinTV + Radio card. The card during capturing is putting horizontal lines in the video and its repeating previous frames in the video.
My system setup is AMD 1900+ , Abit KR7A-133R , 2X 60gig maxtor in RAID , the Happague WinTV + Radio card , SB live 5.1 , dvd rom , plextor cdrw, 1GIG DDR ram, and a Asus Geforce 4 TI4200.
I just got the GF4 so could that be the problem?
I formatted the whole computer and reinstalled all the drivers.
For the WINTV card I am using the newest wdm drivers and newest wintv2000 program. I tried the previous driver also. For the GF4 I first installed the 41.09 and now the 43.45 drivers. The driver change didnt fix the problem. I have DX9 installed.
Before the GF4 I had a GF3 ti200 by gainward this problem never occured with that video card.
I have caputured with SVID and Composite off DirectTV and a Playstation both got the lines.
To capture I am using IUVCR the newest download trial version.
I also captured in PowerVCR and the video flashes and show parts of other frames instead of lines.
IUVCR doesnt say its losing frames.

I have Pictures and Samples of the video in divx 5.02 Format.

with which colorspace do you make your caps?

I am using YUY2

i even tried the card in different PCI slots and that did not help.

it could be your new GF4 is sucking much more current than the older GF3. On my system, I can also use the WinTV picture as a voltage meter: when the tv picture is getting worse and worse (similar vertical lines and picture distortions) I know that the voltage is too low on the 5V line... (solved this problem with a new PSU, though)

Also I get these kind of distortions when watching TV while direct stream-copying big files from one drive to the other (I don't know if this is due to low voltage or something else). Fortunately, I can capture without any distortions.

Those distotions appear, when there is too much traffic on ths PCI-Bus. Try to disable your Preview while capturing.

However when I capture in full-screen with preview on, the bus utilization seems much lower and I don't get these lines. Maybe this is because I'm using the VFW drivers for Win2k (they also work fine in WinXP SP1 Pro) ?

I have the Osprey-210 (just new and testing it out)

I have similar issues too, but only if I start moving the capture
window or my mouse or do anything else during capturing. Apparently,
it's preety sensitive. Ok, it's probably being too tax and at it's
limit. Funny thing about it is that it's NOT dropping any frames!
..and at 720x480, using the BTYUV mode. But, for some strange reason,
I can't seem to cap at 24bit or 32bit mode, nor YUV9 and YV12 modes
with AVI_IO - - BUT, I CAN in vdub. So, go figure.. right..

@bjy999, have you tried using a lower reslution, like 352x480 ??

Also, try not to do ANYTHING else on your pc during your captures.
You may just be at your limit (pending your capture mode (YUV9 etc)
So, you'll have to play around with this. If you are serious about
capping, you MAY want to try vdub, and test all the different modes
it has available (since avi_io doesn't have this ability) and see if
you can get better results.

under vdub, in the AVI capture screen:
* press SHIFT-F (the rest is obvious)

But, just iterate through all the different settings, till you nail
down the won that works best for ya !!

Right now, I have to many pc issues (2nd pc) so I'm not having as much
fun, not to mention that my plans got messhed :confused:

right now I am using iuVCR for the capture.
I thought that you had to use the WDM driver in order for capture software to work. Is that Incorrect?


My 5V is at 4.89 / 12V 11.79 / APG 1.48 / VIO 3.48
while writing this i upped the vcore, ddr and VIO voltages the VIO went to 3.63.
Still the lines at 640x480.

I also went back to the 30.82 drivers for the GeForce because these were the ones I used with the GF3 while the winTV was working.
Still the lines.
I also stuck from foil in an Anti Static bag and layed it inbetween the video card and sb live/ Wintv still the lines.

the cards I have are the GF on AGP , a NIC , sblive 5.1 and the wintv and these cards were all in the system with the GF3 and the capture worked.

At 320x240 there are no lines but there are flickers.
like every second a line will flash somewhere on the video.
better but it used to work at 640x480 :/

next im going to try a GF2 in there because the GF3 that was in the computer is being used.

I capped at 160x120 and it had no lines but it had flashes in the video. I upped another sample called flashes.avi to my site.

* Take out your soundcard, then
* in your capture app, for capturing, turn off Audio, and
..on capture video.

..we just want to see if it's caused by other I/O cards.

I had the geforce 4 in there without the SB Live and still the lines.
Now I have a Geforce 2 and the SB Live and I and still getting noise :<

Could it be the RAID? I have using a highpoint 372 On board controller and 2 maxtor 60gig ata 133s with 2mb cache.
The mobo is a abit KR7A-133r

Try to play with the PCI latency setting in your system BIOS. maybe it helps...

I had the exact same lines in video captures as well, which I have found out are VIA motherboard problems. I found the solution. I enabled "Delay Transaction" and "PCI Master Read Caching" in my BIOS and disabled a program that I had, which would cool my CPU down when idle.

EDIT: I noticed you have an SBLive. SBLive soundcards are known to be PCI bus hoggers, and the VIA motherboards don't have good PCI performance in the first place. If all else fails, try another soundcard, if possible.

VFW driver on pure WDM systems (w2k and xp)?
are you sure?
who is doing the translations (if that can be installed in the first place...i never tried installing vfw to wdm systems,so i don't know...)?

@^^-+I4004+-^^ it's this driver from Hauppage: http://www.hauppauge.com/html/sw_nt.htm#driver
it says VFW driver during the installation and it works for full-resolution capturing without any wdm wrapper.

Probably Hauppage discontinued the development because it was too complicated for them (I think the driver has the vfw to wdm translation included). Nevertheless it still works well under WinXP SP1 :)
