Finally a network ran a story on 321Studios v MPAA. ABC carried a small piece at the end of World News Tonight here on the East, so people in the West should be able to catch it in a few hours. Robert Moore looks a lot different than I imagined, and Jack Valente comes across (to me, at least) as a greedy ill-informed suit "The fact that technology gives you the power to do it doesn't make it right. ... You suddenly find yourself with millions of copies running around like migratory geese" He also associates DVD X Copy with the large scale piracy industry. Sorry, Jack, but they were copying DVDs before DVD X Copy, and still don't use it.

"I say to you that the VCR is to the American film producer and the American public as the Boston strangler is to the woman home alone." -- Jack Valenti

followed it a bit on the yahoo link d9 provided in the news
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=582&e=1&cid=582&u=/nm/20030422/wr_nm/media_321_dc
and i liked this part;
"The law has never provided you have the right to get two-for-one" when you buy a DVD, Frackman said."
hmm,do you really have "two" or just one muvi on 2 discs?i think you can have 10 copies and still you call it ONE film!
but i don't care much about this;i go into this:
"I say to you that the VCR is to the American film producer and the American public as the Boston strangler is to the woman home alone."
category (in a tv recordings sense, although VCR is quite versatile too...hehe)
mp3-vs-riaa case is smiling at hollywood too (no matter the outcome of this trial, they can't stop it....)

There are some people who, of course wrongly, believe that the VCR made a boom in the film industry...
And there are others who claims that the movie industry produced movies on VHS and tried to sell them! Anyone heard that rumour, too?
And that big parts of the industry push rewritable DVD-(some number here) medias/writes, also true?!
What about those who say that the MP3 hype, raised the peoples interest in music?
Not to mention those theories that there are many people who don't want to watch the latest "I raped a book and these models are in fact actors!" movie, but would rather choose something intelligent/different... Or, that there is more in music than the latest boygroup and/or fabricated hype.
Before: Industry tries to figure out what the public wants (more or less, of course) and then makes/buys it and sells it.
Now: Industry figures something out. Then it tries to find reasons why you need it, after that it sells it to you (somehow, this reminds me of the IT industry).
But, without this state we wouldn't have freezers with bluetooth and internet connection, MS latest "standard", the succesor to the DVD format succesor, .exe greeting cards, mobile telephones with Doom3 and Britney Spears...
And, we could use the math of the RIAA and MPAA:
Take any number (lets say x), multiply it with another number pulled out of the behind (y), and you get the number that you loose with pirate copies. Of course, such unimportant things like logic, research and facts are ommited, but real marketing doesn't need such silly things.
But, who cares anyway, I'm just a pirate who makes his living with pirate copying, else I wouldn't be on these boards all those years  .
Cheers,
Mijo.
