need help cleaning up cartoon (rainbow effect)

been capturing some cartoons lately but i have problem where the video will have a rainbow effect along some of the edges/lines (colors keep flipping through rainbow colors). i can't get rid of it. i've tried combintations of temporal and spatial filters but no luck. best results is using temporal filter and high level, but problem there is that there are ghosting effects.

are there any good techniques for clearing this up? or any particular filters?

Trying to filter it out is not easy. The best solution is to capture from SVideo or component video. If you capture using composite you're at the mercy of the (probably horrible) comb filter on your capture card.

Tell us about your capture card and connections, and your source material. Ideal is SVideo out of a digital receiver. :)

hi, good to know you are aware of problem i'm describing. i'm capturing off of analog cable (family guy, great show). i've tried using my leadtek 2000xp as tuner and also used vcr as tuner through composite in. captures seem slightly better when using leadtek. i use avi_io to capture to mjpeg.

but sounds like the best i can do is play with the spatial and temporal cleaners though. darn. was hoping there was some color temporal cleaner that would prevent the rainbow flickering.

commercial dvd's don't have that rainbow effect right? i've never seen a cartoon dvd before.

You should give Guava Comb and Antiblink a try. Those are the only filters which can (sometimes) get rid of crosstalk problems like you’ve described.
