Encoding divx at "wrong" aspect ratio

Just had an idea yesterday and would like to hear people's opinions about it. Since Zoom Player can change the aspect ratio of a file when playing it to 4/3 or 16/9 I was wondering if I would get better quality when encoding a fullscreen 4/3 dvd if I used a resolution like 352*576 (I am in PAL territory) and then "corrected" the aspect ratio during playback, than if I used 512*384. Both these resolutions give approx the same bits/pixel.
The reason I had this thought is because, as I understand it, this is what a dvdplayer does with a SVCD as the resolution is 480*576 and therefore not 4/3.
I mainly watch my movies using tv-out if that makes a difference.

And what if people don't use ZoomPlayer? This is called Anamorphic. It's a great idea but it will be good to have a player to get the correct ratio automaticly.

Actually, even without special player, you can force an aspect ratio in the DivX decoder configuration.

But I would rather go for 512x384, because it's more convenient.
