help encoding captured mpeg2 to divx problems

Hi, I captured 2.5hrs of video to mpeg2 with winfast tv2000(4000vbr, 1000quality) at 640x480,25fps. I cut out all the commercials with video studio6(which took a while)then tried to save the output with the same settings as original but it kept on re-encoding, so i tried to save to divx 5.03. I used the bitrate calculater and came up with 1140 for 1hr20mins. the setting i used in the options were 1140encoding bitrate, 1-pass vbr mode, 24-bit RGB, 25fps, PCM 44.1 16bit stereo, medium performance, home-theatre profile. when i encode a test some scenes repeat(like a punch will repeat), and then the properties show the data rate is 334Kbps when i chose 1140?
Then i tried divx mpeg4 fast motion 1140br 50%smooth-crisp, and the same result(repeating frames, 334Kbps data rate).
Am i doing something wrong with all these rates?
I tried using VirtualDubMod_1_4_13_2v2 for the encoding(im not sure how to cut out the commercials) but it came up with errors saying the mpeg2 had no video stream :confused: , but video studio recognised them?
I dont want to re-capture 8hrs of video(i captured 6hrs at 720x576,25fps-with same problems)?
wat can do?

Use Gordian Knot. Follow (partially) Doom9's guide.

Here's where you need to differ from the step by step guide:
You can skip the ripping step. Don't bother with R4R, just start DVD2AVI manually, or, if it's still on the Ripping tab, you can start it from there. (I'm still on Gknot 0.27, and don't know what's changed in .028.)

Instead of pointing DVD2AVI at Vob streams, open your MPEG-2 file(s).

Create your project, demuxing your .mpa audio.

Use your favorite audio toolset to convert the audio, as desired. I use BeSweet/BeSweetGUI to convert from MP2 to MP3.

Use the [] buttons to select the main content, excising leading and trailing stuff that was captured, but isn't wanted.

Selecting your MPEG audio (MP2) track for demuxing -- it's usually Track 1. Make sure MPEG Audio is set to Demux.

Save your .d2v project (F4).

Use your favorite audio toolset to convert the audio, as desired. I use BeSweet/BeSweetGUI to convert from MP2 to MP3.
