I am using GordianKnot to do DVD to AVI. I used to successfully make rips all the time but now all i can get is this message. I have tried ripping the dvd in both SmartRipper and DVDDecrypter.
I open the vob files in dvd2avi, do the f5 test and set it to forced film, pc scale and YUV, audio is on demux, all the right settings...
When i go to Open at the bottom left of GKnot, and open the .d2v, it gives the message "File is not a valid dvd2avi project (v.1.76), avi or avs file!" everytime. I have tried over 5 different dvd's. I'm using GordianKnot RipPack 0.27 and i just installed GordianKnot SystemPack 1.0 to make sure that wasn't my problem. After using dvd2avi and "save project" i have tried "open project" in dvd2avi and it opens fine. I would think if it was an invalid project file that dvd2avi wouldn't be able to open it either. So i dont understand where i'm going wrong here. Why wont gknot accept this file?

(Another problem i had before i reformatted the last time was i did dvd rips for so long and then all of the sudden when i would start encoding, it would finish instantly, leaving me with nothing. The same would happen when i did the compression test. But i have formatted since then, and installed gknot and all freshly, not using the same setup folders as last time, and i am getting this problem now that i have not been able to fix for quite a while. (but that is beside the point, that problem doesn't really matter anymore, its this new problem) It just says the project is invalid over and over.)

If anyone can help me i would really appreciate it, this is driving me insane.

Thanks.

Stupid question time: -- you have 1.76, not a newer version, correct?

Copy and paste the first few lines of your .d2v project file here. I certainly can't read that stuff, but perhaps someone more knowledgable can.

This is one of those problems that come up from time to time yet it has never been solved as far as I know.

Usually it can be fixed by either recreating the project from the vobs (but you've already done this if I understood you right) or reinstalling Gordian Knot. As I don't know what part of GK need to be reinstalled I'd suggest you try reinstalling it all.

Hmmm... X disk, eh? If you're trying to run this via a network attached disk, then that is why this is failing. The project must be read from a physically attached disk.

(I don't know why a CIFS I/O is different than a SCSI or EIDE I/O as far as Gknot and/or AviSynth is concerned ... but it's a known limitation.)

I have already reinstalled GKnot, i've upgraded the version too.

reply to jggimi: i like the drive letter x. it puts it as the last drive in explorer. i named it with that drive letter. it was defaulted 'e' and i changed it to 'x'. its a physical ide internal harddrive, not a network drive.

still need help people! i miss my mp4's :(

This is just conjecture .... but ... perhaps the change from E to X is what has caused the problem? I know it's far fetched, but ... it's worth a try resetting it to E.

Well, you've got me, assuming that your .vob file is actually on your C drive, in the location specified.

If you search on that error message (not valid project dvd2avi), you'll find quite a few hits. You might try this rather drastic fix from the last reply to this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26854). It may work, or it may not.

Most problems with this error message occur through moving/changing the location of the .vobs ... or even deleting them.

After you first got this problem? Anyway I'd try again, and if it's still not fixed and the problem stays the same for all movie I try I would reinstall the OS. But that's just me, I reguarly (every 2-3 months) reinstall XP anyway, so it's no big deal for me.

Any solution to this? I have the same problem, and I tried _EVERYTHING_, from reinstall GKnot, delete registry settings, reinstall DVD2AVi, different versions of DVD2AVI, recreate the vobs many times, even change drives and so.

It was working just fine, it enden and encode and when I tried to open the very same project because I wanted to change something, it gave me this error. Now I cannot open ANY project.

Help! :scared:

PS: Forgot to say: I tried GKnot 0.27, 28, 28.1 beta 1, 28.2 beta 2
