Whenever I try to use my Pioneer A03 at 2x speed writing with DVD Decrypter I get the above error message. If I eject the disc then re-insert it and then set the burn speed to 1x it works fine. I have firmware 1.80 RC-1. I've downloaded the latest version of DVDDecrypter but the problem is still there. Any suggestions? Is it the type of discs I'm using or do I need a firmware upgrade?

No idea why that would happen. Are the discs certified for 2x burning?

As you say, try upgrading to v2.00 firmware. It too is RPC1 so you'll still be able to rip all the discs you like from all the regions you like :)

ps. I wouldnt go for the 2x for all firmware.... discs that are supposed to be burnt at 2x will already be enabled in the firmware. Hacking it so that others NOT certified for 2x speeds is a bad idea and often just ends up making you lots of nice coasters!

Can anyone tell me how long a firmware upgrade should take. I just ran the upgrade to version 2.0 and after 4 hrs it just came to a halt. Key - read 0004h and key2 read 0192eh. I took a gamble and restarted the machine and fortunately no harm seems to be done, but I'm still at firmware 1.80. When I upgraded some months ago I don't remember it taking so long.

It should take no longer than a couple of minutes.

You might like to try disabling DMA on the drive before you flash it.

Also, close any programs that might be accessing the drive.
