700-850 Bitrate parameters

Hi guys . I just want your opinion for low bitrate 2+ hours movies in one CD. I would like to see with what standarts are you working . I also want some standarts for me , cause it happens to have to encode 5 dvd's in one day (in a cd each cos good movies have special treatment) and i don't have a lot of time for testing .

Neutral Bicubic
sometimes if need it Noise Filter LOW
the credits with 31 quantizer :) (you can see them)

Always B-Frames + GMC (Your Opinion pls) (quartel pel i had tested once and had problems artifacts)
rarely shychoenchanchment LOW (don't trust it)
Max keyframe interval 300 for 25000 PAL movies
Scene change threshold never touch it , don't know what's that
the quantizer some times i change it from 12 to 10 or 8 .

Divx Schizo 5.0.4 last

The same as 5.0.2 (i don't see big changes )
where are the quantizers ? in registry ? how can i change them ?\

I know you all say to do a comp test . The answer is i am doing and try to be near 65% , if i don't have time to do i try the bits/(pixel*frame) be near .210 and .190 .

As soon as we're talking quality and compressability, the bitrate becomes more or less a non-issue. 800 kbps for one movie does not equal 800 kbps for another movie when it comes to "quality" (quality is a damn hard thing to define).

For clean and sharp pictures with high comp. value I usually use lanczosresize. For more noisy and low comp. values I usually use soft or neutral bicubic (the difference to the eyes between the two is minimal IMHO).

I've an extreme Example:
I've got "Matrix" onto one CD with 720x304 and nice quality
but "Starship Troopers" looked even at 448x240 bad.
both movies have the same lenght.

I'm making a backup of "The Big Lebowski" (great movie btw) right now (98min long).
Did my best to get it on one cd. But even at 512x340 (lowest I'll go) with Xvid (Koepi-05042003-1, played with settings until the cows came home) and Divx 5.03 (just upgraded to 5.04), I was unable to get it to look "okay".

The dvd itself was mastered very poorly. The image has lots of noise, and the frames jump up and down 1-3 pixels every 1-5 frames. To top that off, the movie itself has lots of complex scenes.

I broke down and I'm encoding it for 2 cds. 1480 biterate, will keep ac3 audio for 2 cds.

Just like scharfis_brain pointed out.
Some long movies can fit just fine on one cd, others, don't...

I did a 1 CD (700 MB) ripp of Shawshank Redemption once, 135 min. I used DivX 5.02, B-frames, GMC, quantizer=8, the rest as default. Size 544x288, bitrate 509, 2-pass. Whating this movie on TV it looks excellent, no visable artifacts. On computer (19" monitor) it still looks good but could be better. I watch all my DivX movies on TV so I was very happy with the result.
