I have 2 files one divx and one xvid and the subtitles in seperate .sub and .str files respectevly. I need to know how to combine the files into the movie so they become permanent.
Thanks in advance.

To "burn in" subtitles would require re-encoding your videos, producing a significant loss in quality.

So basically it won't work?

You can try storing them in a different container format, like OGM. However, then you may need to install additional software for playback.

Is there a guide I can use somewhere.

I should have been more clear. I then want to encode it into an SVCD.

Then this is the wrong forum. This has nothing to do with DivX encoding, it's just that one of your sources happens to be in DivX format.

Doom9 has guides (http://www.doom9.org/conversionguides.htm) for converting AVI to SVCD; I recommend using the DVD2SVCD guide.

To add the subtitles, if I recall correctly, you'll need to do a custom install of Vobsub, and then add the Vobtext filter to the AviSynth script in DVD2SVCD. Someone more familiar with DVD2SVCD can guide you as necessary.
