Is there any way to use DVD2SVCD to convert an avi file and a separate English subtitles file into a single file that VCDEASY can then read and convert? The movie is Y Tu Mama Tambien and it has the normal .avi file and a .sub file.

I've used DVD2SVCD for both ripping DVDs and converting AVIs but don't see a straightforward way of use the subtitles file (.sub) as part of the AVI process.

Thanks,

I have to admit, that i´ve never done it myself, but what about

-choosing avi
-checking 'rip subtitles' under the subtitle tab
-clicking go -> add external subtitles

You are probably correct. I thought that the ripping implied stripping subtitles out of a DVD but it looks like it will work the way you suggested. IF it doesn't, I'll come back and ask another question. <G>

You are right, since dvd2svcd has implemented the support for external subtitles, the '_rip_ subtitles' checkbox is maybe a bit outdated.

Well, I did as you suggested by checking rip subtitles and told it the subtitles file information after I selected GO. It created the images that I then used as input to VCDEASY for creating the BIN and CUE files but there are no subtitles with WINDVD or with my standalone APEX DVD player. This APEX player has displayed subtitles in the past so I must still be doing something wrong.

I´m sorry, as stated above i´ve no experience with external subtitles. Do you see the subtitles in the preview mode? Btw, WinDVD wont show any kind of selectable subtitles for SVCDs. A logfile of your encode would give us some more neccessary information.
Maybe somebody else jumps into this thread to help you out.

I've posted the encoding runs. Ignore the issue of Small Soldiers...that's just the directory that was used. The EString error occurred at the very end after all of the 7+ hours of TMPGENC re-encoding was done. I have no idea what it means.

Thanks,
