Some small problems with the new DivX5.04... i think...

1) I've just encoded a movie but the colour seem to be all wrong ... but when i go to the divx5.04 and select Quality Settings and then put a tick to Overlay Extended Mode and the colours came out right... what seem to be the problem? I have encouter this with 5.03 as well ... but sometimes with some luck the colours came out okay which does not need to use Overlay Extended Mode when play back?

**What seem to be the problem ? is there a setting when encoding the movie that i have to do to prevent this colour problem?

2) This problem occurs when i play the 5.04 clip the 2nd time around...
After i encode the movie playback fine which enables me to use the DivX filter as usual... like i can go to the options and change the quality settings and everything ... but the 2nd time i watch it ... i see this message in the Media player searching for the right codec to decode the movie .. and at the end it says could not find an appropiate decoder to watch the movie ... but the clip still watchable ... but WITHOUT the divx filter settings at all ... so i do not see any filter properties....

**Does this got to do with this new DivX5.02+ Certified Profile thing?? cos i always make sure it complies to Home Theatre Profile when encode... or is this problem due to directshow or something?

okay i have the picture here ...

here the pic of the divx ... the colour fully distored .. i can only view the clip in original colour if i set it to Overlay Extended Mode ... but somehow that kills my divx filter when i try to play this clip again :((

i can only view the clip in original colour if i set it to Overlay Extended ModeWhich probably means that your videocard does not support the standard (software) overlay, and only successfully plays a video when alternative (=hardware) overlay modes are used. Or the software overlay could be occupied with another video.

I can also see the clip in original colour if i open it up with Virtualdub....VirtualDub uses VfW to decode the video, which means it doesn't use the (DirectShow) overlay at all.

Some other things to take into consideration:
- You cannot view two videos at the same time because the overlay can only be used on one instance of the player.
- Make sure you have your desktop set at 32-bit colors, some users have reported (color) problems when desktop was at 16 bit.
- It's always a good idea to uninstall and reinstall the codec, many unexplainable problems can be cleared up that way.

thanks for the help ... i switched to 32bit colour and the problem is solved ..

but im still puzzled about this random problem when i encode... cos i have encoded lord of the ring a few times ... and sometimes and my desktop setting (16bit colour), encoding settings r pretty much the same except bitrate might be slightly different.... and i get this colour problem a few times ... and at the end i was lucky and did not get this colour problem... i was able to play back the clip properly without Overlay Extended Mode under 16bit colour and the clip looks good...

MMz thats strange since a few day's i get b/w playback of every kind of media filez even dvd or i get some strange playback problems like you had strange colors, it has something to do with my yuv12 filter or my overlay i dunno.

But it's strange i have this since i installed windows.net and along some other program's it usually happends when i use tv tool and switch back to my desktop. maby there's a bug in a program i installed or something.. :/

yeh im starting to wonder if it's the YUV problem ... yesterday i ripped another movie and this time in DVD2AVI video setting i set the video to RGB instead of using YUV ... after divx compression it plays perfectly in 16bit/32bit colour desktop setting...

i'll be doing a few more dvds using RGB insead of YUV see if thats the problem ...
