U know, i have read all the information on this thread and see the pictures and have even also downloaded the Squeeze package from Kazaa P2P to check it and i would say to DVDshrink: do the same in opposit way; as they have made a flex interface and webdesign, why not in future versions of DVDshrink use this interface to spread the new version of DVDshrink to the people for FREE. Let them (the squeezers)
repack the new version of shrink also like this so DVDshrink and the people here can spread this copy of theirs for free everywhere, advertise als much as possible to make people aware that the same commercial package with the same interface is free to download, so those people soon won't sell anything anymore of their "work"
Lets take advantage of the nice grafficwork of them and spread their package free all over the world. Put in online and nwespapers, everyone should know about this, not only, great functioning, but also flexlooking tool that is FREE to download.

If however it comes to copyrights, Shrink can always proove that it is actually his program as he has the source. Besides, who started who ripping of?? So if it comes to a case i think this wouldnt be a problem.

Lets bring it into the news and talkshows and take advantage of this fraud situation, maybe it makes DVDshrink even more populair and for sure if the people know about it they are not buying this software from the frauders if it is free for download. Or we can also alter the graphics of theirs just a little bit and be inspired by the look of the squeeze package. Just change it so little to prevent the copyrights of the look and take this look into shrink.

Waldok:cool:

Didn't you see the post from DVDSHRINK himself on the first page of this thread asking this community if there was anything one can do about these rip off guys? So in this case, the author of the program is asking for our assistance on what can be done if anything. By MrBass posting that info about the FBI site is helping to inform DVDshrink and other program authors that may read this forum about what they can do to report these guys. I don't think that we as individuals should be the ones to report the issue to the FBI, but nothing is wrong with posting ideas and links to resources that may help these program authors take action.

The future DVDShrink very possibly will not be free, and very likely will be accompanied by a license to make it clear that redistribution for profit is forbidden.

The license and copywriting is very important to help prevent rip-offs from happening and to give the author any course of legal action. I found this information about Freeware on a Universities web site:

FREEWARE also is covered by copyright and subject to the conditions defined by the holder of the copyright. The conditions for FREEWARE are in direct opposition to normal copyright restrictions. In general, FREEWARE software licenses stipulate that (1) the software is covered by copyright, (2) copies of the software can be made for both archival and distribution purposes but that distribution cannot be for profit, (3) modifications to the software is allowed and encouraged, (4) decompiling (i.e. reverse engineering) of the program code is allowed without the explicit permission of the copyright holder, and (5) development of new works built upon the package (derivative works) is allowed and encouraged with the condition that derivative works must also be designated as FREEWARE. That means that you cannot take FREEWARE, modify or extend it, and then sell it as COMMERCIAL or SHAREWARE software.

Since the programers work is copyrighted even without a notice of copyright, then it is illegal for them to destribute (or Sell) their software without the authors permission. Found this info in a FAQ about the copyright Act.

What should I know about the U.S. Copyright Act?

The Copyright Law recognizes that all intellectual works (programs, data, articles, books, etc.) are automatically covered by copyright unless it is explicitly noted to the contrary. That means that the owner of a copyright holds the exclusive right to reproduce and distribute his or her work. For software this means it is illegal to copy or distribute software, or its documentation, without the permission of the copyright holder.

I have downloaded a installer for the new DVD X Copy Platinum from a P2P program and its setup icon is the the same as the DVDDecrypter icon wich i see on the image wich MackemX posted...

Aslo on the DVDSqueezer site and dvdCopyDecrypter bla bla.. are links placed to DVD X Copy, does this mean that they are responsible for this riped of application? No wonder that there are so many bugs on this DVD X Copy Platinum shit, as they cannot program theirselves but are implementating others code into their interface. So... they are trying to expand the Shrink app but actually only making it worser every codeline they write :P

EDIT:

This DVDSqueeze deal has nothing to with 321studios as you look at closely at the www.dvdcopydecrypter.com site at the bottom, you will see at the bottom words like: contact DVD X copy and contact 321studios for support, but the links do not lead to the original 321studios.com but to dvdsqueeze.com!!
They also put at the bottom a visible link looking like its linking to you but in fact they replaced the letter O with a number 0
If u clck this link your browser will open a original location of 321studios.com but in fact it is another link. (www.321studi0s.com) with a number 0. When opening this page, their dvdsqueeze site will pop-up and other advertisements.
They have also this link: http://www.321studios-dvd-copy-pro-software-download-free.com/default.htm

I contact 321studios about this, because it did however in the first place let me think the real 321studios has something to with it.
And they produce better software then these "squeezers" wich in fact are all stolen produkts!!

(IFAIK the DVDDecrypter Icon comes from the NSIS Installer. So using that icon is ok.)

WE should actually let someone compare the "DvdCopyDecrypter" from the Squeeze package software code (assembly mode) to the shrink code to see if it is really just copied and put into a new interface... Maybe the "just" stole the ideas, i don't know, ...however, in the package self is some freeware bundled even without modifcations isnt it?

If you plan on taking legal action, you need to register your work with the copyright office. http://www.loc.gov/copyright/

Here are a few other FAQs....

When is my work protected?
Your work is under copyright protection the moment it is created and fixed in a tangible form that it is perceptible either directly or with the aid of a machine or device.

Do I have to register with your office to be protected?
No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work. See Circular 1, Copyright Basics, section “Copyright Registration.”

Why should I register my work if copyright protection is automatic?
Registration is recommended for a number of reasons. Many choose to register their works because they wish to have the facts of their copyright on the public record and have a certificate of registration. Registered works may be eligible for statutory damages and attorney's fees in successful litigation. Finally, if registration occurs within 5 years of publication, it is considered prima facie evidence in a court of law. See Circular 1, Copyright Basics, section “Copyright Registration” and Circular 38b, Highlights of Copyright Amendments Contained in the Uruguay Round Agreements Act (URAA), on non-U.S. works.
