View Full Version : What am I missing? Bitrate at Zero! Manual or Auto

For starters...Eyes and BBWoof...thank you for all of your time and effort on two great programs...
The last time I used dif4u was about 6 months ago and things were a lot different. I have read every post I can read and gone through the guide quite a few times.
Basically the problem is...when DIF4U is done, and hands off to DCCE4U automatically, CCE will lock about 1 sec into the .mpv creation. It took me a while to figure out that CCE was told to encode at a bitrate of 0. In the old days before autostart of DCCE4U, I could go to the bitrate calc and determine the bitrate using the directory where all of the streams had been demuxed to...but now there is no break in the action so I have never had a chance to do a bitrate calc.
I am confused.
Is bitrate calc not automatic now based upon the size of the movie minus the audio and extras (at the preset extras bitrate)?
If bitrate is manual, when is it determined? Do i have to rip apart the movie first, figure the bitrate and then let DIF4U do its magic?
(Hopefully it is auto and I am missing something)
FYI- movie is Friends Season 3 with 21 PGC's in 1 VTS with many of the PGC's actually contained in the #1PGC so data is repeated all over the place....Thank God for Demux by VOB ID!!!

well...straight from trilights uber guide...and in red no less
"NOTE: Remember, if you are doing your project by PGC, you can use the settings that DoItFast4U writes to the CCEdata.txt file! If you are doing the project by VOBID, you will STILL need to calculate this manually!"
And now I just found this in the log...now i feel stupid...answer was right there
"(09:16:19) Beta Bitrate Calculations...
(09:16:19) (Doesn't work with VobID,CellID,or Mult-Episode DVDs)
(09:16:19) (Extras MaxBitrate only accurate if all extras are in folders)
(09:16:19)
---
(09:16:19) Recommended values for CCE: Extras MaxBitrate= 9800
(09:16:19) Recommended values for CCE: Extras AverageBitrate= 2800
(09:16:19) Recommended values for CCE: Main Movie AverageBitrate= 0
(09:16:19) Recommended values for CCE: Main Movie MaxBitrate= 9800"
This brings up another small request for Eyes...5 channel, can that be included in the DVDCalc, it picks up 2 and 6 just fine but a lot of TV is done in 5 for some reason.

The beta build theoretically work with vobid now, if you want to try them out.
Oh and the beta build should correctly be able to use 5ch ac3s accurately for bitrate calculation too. It wont find it in the DVDCalc, but it will use it in automatic calculations. I guess I could add 5ch support to the DVDCalc, but I'm not sure how necessary that is...

Thanks...i'll try it tonight and see how it goes...all i need now is a 5channel dummy file...besliced doesn't seem to give me a valid dummy for scenarist.

Try Headac3he :)

i was able to use soft encode to make the dummy file by taking a channel out of trilight's 6 channel dummy.
Eyes...I was not able to download last night from your site. Both yours and Trilights appeared to be down. Is the file still there? says file cannot be found on the server using the link about.

Eyes...the software is running flawlessly with one exception. Backed up FriendsSeason3 and MadAboutYouSeason2. Only exception is the the size is over on 2 of the 5 discs. DVDCalc is set to 4700000000(Safe). I see in the revision you fixed that it defaulted to aggessive in .13 but I was 29MB and 20MB over on the 2 discs. I am trying now setting DVDCalc to DVDR-30MB to see if that works...i'll let you know. Thanks again for the hard work.

too weird man.. i reset that calc to the way it was before with no changes! I just don't get it. I guess I'll have to go thru my code with a fine-toothed comb...
well setting it to DVDR - 30 took the 30MB off and now they fit with 1MB and 10MB to spare. Doing the 4th disk at 4700000000Safe was again over by 16MB (4716335104). This was a fairly complex disc with 61PGC's over 2VTS's split by VOBId. Does the amount of overhead that scenarist needs change based on the complexity of the video? Just a thought. Just doing the math on this particular title, ac3 and mpv's add up to 4449439744, when muxed in scenarist this yields 4583102464 which implies 133662720 of overhead. Is this a set amount or does it change?

Every little factor accounts for some change in .vob overhead. Hmm I'll have to look at vobid usage. Using safe, I've been coming up about 7 megs short of full dvd-r size, and I was going to relax it another 5 megs.. but I may need to add new functionality in there for vobid?! I dunno! :scared:
