when you put the safe lines on for menus, does anyone know if its the smaller one or bigger line that is what a tv shows, or is it different for each tv. the reason i ask is cause i already have a menu made and dont want to remake it if i dont have to.

The larger area is called the "action safe" area, while the smaller area is "title safe". So any text should stay within the smaller area.

but will things inside the large area still show on a normal tv, or just things inside the smallest area?

The action safe area will show on all modern televisions, only older sets have such bad overscan that only the title safe area shows. It is still good practice to keep text inside the title safe area.
