I'm planning to add a 10 min mpg (352x240, 29,970 FPS) to my DVD as a hidden bonus track. Is it possible to convert this source to an m2v file to be imported and used on a PAL DVD?

My guess is that the quality will be quite bad as it has to be 'blown up' but this is more of a private joke than anything else. Would it be possible to make it letterboxed to display it in it's original resolution? Or as a workaround, could I put it in a large frame like an animated scene selection menu only that the scene shown is not a few seconds but 10 min?

u can use it as is. DVD specs allow the use of a mpg1 video stream as long as the bitrate doesn't exceede 1858kbs. Your tv set would handle the blow out to fill the screen and the quality wont be worse than a VHS movie.

In order to be able to put it in a frame u have to reencode it using a program like premiere. In a mpeg1 stream that would be disastrous in my opinion.

U want to put it on a PAL dvd. That would require reencoding and resizing and frame speed changing to Pal specs. Since this is a practical joke u can do it quite easily in Premiere in one go and u might as well frame it as u asked above.

ProCoder would be your best option, IMHO, but it's rather expensive. Just a suggestion.

I can't actually remember if TMPGEnc will encode MPEG1 source files to MPEG2 output files. Worth a try, though, cos there's some good noise reduction filters in TMPGEnc, and it does a great job of resizing stuff. ProCoder will definitely do the best job on the planet for this though.
