I have been using the DirectShowSource command in an AVS script to open MPEG2 files in Virtual dub (unmodified) without any problems. However, unfortunately the same script file does not work in Windows Media Player 6.4 (Media Player complains suitable codec cannot be found, even though Windows Media Player usually plays the file without any problems). But the AVISource command does work in Windows Media Player 6.4! My interpretation would be that either Windows Media Player 6.4 does some extra processing or AVISynth does not use the MPEG2 decoder that I installed (Elcard MPEG2 decoder). Is there perhaps a workaround for Windows Media Player or some parameters that I should change?
I havent' had much success with the external MPEG2 decoders mentioned in the FAQ at www.avisynth.org (error message something like 'cannot open file'). Does somebody perhaps have a test MPEG file and AVISynth script for the MPEG2 decoders that should work on any computer?
Do you perhaps know of a suitable MPEG2 decoder for use in Virtualdub (at present I only find a Microsoft MPEG4 coder in the Compression dialog box of Virtualdub? That way I could at least save my files in MPEG2 format, as AVISynth apparently does not have a command for saving files to disk.
