I've been trying to figure out for awhile a way to encode AVI's with VBR MP3 soundtracks into a SVCD without losing audio/video sync. I finally figured it out so I thought I'd share it with you guys.
1. All you have to do is open the AVI in VirtualDub
2. Set Audio to Full Processing Mode.
3. Go to Conversion and make sure 48,000, 16-bit, and stereo are all selected.
4. File > Save WAV and wait for it to save the WAV
5. Now make sure Video is set to Direct Stream Copy.
6. Then go to Audio and select WAV audio and open the WAV file you just created.
7. Save the AVI.
The AVI you just created is ready for processing with DVD2SVCD or tmpgenc and your audio and video will stay in perfect sync!
