lumi mask affecting the final file size?

i am not sure if only i get this problem. whenever i turn on the lumi mask, the final file size could not meet my estimation. i have tried various settings, 700M or 1400M, B frame, GMC, qpixel, etc, whenever i turn lumi mask on, the filesize will definitely go bigger than what i wanted. not just a little bigger, but at least 20M big and even 150M. and everything is fine with the final file size after disabling the lumi mask.

I ripped my first DVD in my life only 6 days ago, and you can see how hard it is for a fresh user, and there is not much helpful information in Chinese website, so i have to turn to help here which i think is the toppest website of the world for DVDrip. so i do need you sophisticated user or developer's help.

That's definatly strange. Take a look at iago's 2pass-encoding document, it'll sure help you. Don't forget to NOT restrict the quantizers at all.
lumi masking should be used in 2pass modes only, dunno if you're using 1pass/CBR - that's the only case which i can think of which would maybe suffer from (refdivx') lumi mask, but rate control should take care of that as well.

This problem doesn't occur here, so we need to know more about your encoding settings.

You know that hitting "load defaults" will most likely produce the best result for you?

since you said lumi masking should only be used in 2 pass. shall i disabble the lumi masking in the first pass and enable it in the 2nd pass?

NO...If you want to use lumi masking enable it in both passes

If I remember corectly it has been said to enable it only on 2nd pass because of some kind of redundancy causing some distortions?

Use lumi-masking always on BOTH passes; if you don't, XviD's calculation for the bitrate distribution in 2nd pass won't be quite correct.

Yes, the settings of the first and second pass should always be the same. This also concerns your avisynth script. If you use anything different to the first pass your .avi file won't have the correct size.
