I have Ghost in the Shell, pal (25fps)
I have read threads on pal anime but i would like to have confirmation based on this sample that i have a screwed dvd :o

i use nandub/vfapi with following filters (from top to bottom)
deinterlace (blend)
null transform
resize (bicubic)

Some feedback on how to improve the rip with the tools i use are also appreciated.

All files converted from bmp to jpg
51270-51273.jpg original extract thru vfapi
51270new-51273new.jpg samples from 2pass result

I also have Ghost in the Shell, PAL and it's indeed screwed up :(. All you can really do is deinterlace, which you have.

If you're willing to try something new you could try Avisynth together with the Dup (http://shelob.mordor.net/dgraft/dup/dupnew.html) filter to increase compression, however that movie is already quite easy to compress so it's not really necessary. Other than that you don't really need anything to improve it.

It seems to be that the video is only resized to half height, instead of being deinterlaced.

I would test, whether telecide(post=false helps, if not, use telecide() instead.

@ sharfis
NO! no telecide! telecide is only for field shifted DVDs!
FieldDeinterlace(full=true,dthreshold=0) is all he needs.
BTW, you may add a sharpening filter, because deinterlacing blurs the picture quite a bit.

@ MadScientist
It's a know problem with the UK DVD of GITS.
The french DVD doesn't have any sync problems.
