Hi.
I've just give it a try and played with EKG. But this one has a minor but annoying bug.
I don't know if this has been pointed out already.
I've done the first 2 passes on a small sample of one minute (two differents scenes in it) then I launch EKG and modify modulation of the first scene. I press "Save Changes" and "close" the avi inside EKG program so that it can be overwritten when VirtualDub will do the 3rd pass.
Here I start the third one and got an horrible error message. The word "error" just appears in the status of my VirtualDub Job control (F4). And you can believe me, in those cases this word looks pretty ugly! ;)
So I've tried many times and always got the same message!?! And suddenly I tried something else: to close the EKG program. It worked now!!!
So the "close file" function in the EKG program is worthless as you must close the program to let VirtualDub doing its job: the next passes. Even if you close the AVI, it happens that EKG still has a link to the AVI file and VirtualDub believes this one is already opened and used by another application and display a beautiful error message.
Otherwise you can let EKG open but the next passes should have a different AVI name (movie3.avi, movie4.avi, etc...).
Something to fix in the next release.
Besides this, cheers for the whole work!!! The EKG program is great and allow very quickly and easily to improve scenes that were at the limit quality speaking. Divx has reached another quality level. :)

Instead I didn't notice any new great improvement since DivX 5. From 5.01 to 5.04 the quality and features are more or less the same and quality is at the same level. Obiously I'm talkin' about 1 pass Quality based encoding (the only way to test the quality). Instead performing at least 3 passes, I noted the better bitrate allocation that helps to reach a better quality. From 2 to 3 pass there's a good difference, after the 4th pass I think is a waste of time.

in other words, the codec's quality capacity is pretty much the same from version 5.01, except with more than 2-passes, it helps the codec allocate the bitrate better.
