this cannot be done in gknot. e.g. use besweet(gui) to transcode the audio (to mp3,...). gknot can mux the mp3 though.

Just select *.mpa file and it will be transcoded the same way as ac3...

why transcoding if you can mux the stream as is.. ?

Never tried that... but isn't mpa larger than mp3 (with bitrate ~115kbps)?

indeed, typical mpa streams are usually at higher bitrates (around 200) than typical mp3 streams (around 120), but going from 200mp2 to 120mp3 is really not advised in terms of quality.
my suggestion is to either mux the stream as is, or to transcode it into a vorbis stream with lower bitrates. (reasonable quality)

for DVD sources yes...
I just usually get mpa from SVCDs... where quality doesn't really matter already...
And since GK is not supporting OGM yet, I'm using mp3s :)

cheers, mate :) , you made your choice!
my choice is to keep the original svcd stream.

Would that be true for mp2 only? Or would you say the situation is the same for AC 192 kbps? (I'm using ogg, so it doesn't really matter for me, but I'm curios.)

same for 192kbps ac3 - either you mux it as is, or you transcode it into a vorbis stream at low bitrate.
