View Full Version : DVD Shrink creates broken IFOs?

I've noticed that the IFO files created by DVD Shrink (1.03, movie only) make IFOEdit unhappy. For example: Run DVD Shrink
Open VTS_01 IFO file with IFOEdit
Edit something -- for instance, change one of the cells from a layer break to a regular cell
IFOEdit issues several complaints about the structure of the IFO file
What I've taken to doing is discarding the IFOs created by DVD Shrink and recreating them using IFOEdit (from the VOB files). Then I patch up the IFO files manually so they have the correct language tags, etc.

What concerns me is that if IFOEdit doesn't like the IFO files, then perhaps some standalone players won't either.

It seems only to be that IFOEdit doesn't like it if you cut off
credits (crop) with DVDShrink. It doesn't seem to be an issue with quite a few pioneer dvd standalone players. Just cuz IFOEdit doesn't like it doesn't necessarily mean it's not correct.

At the same token I was using InstantCopy to keep main movie only with menu never had a problem playing in standalone dvd player but I don't think it's a good idea to do anymore.

i noticed the same thing. used dvddecrypter to rip, used dvdshrink to edit the movie - remove credits. then ran the output thru dvd2one. got encrypted data error immediately. dvd2one processed the output of dvddecrypter fine.

i tried to process the output of dvd shrink in dvdtoolbox. that reported an error too.

Yes, it does. Just because some players will play it doesn't mean it is correct.

Yes -- I have an Apex that will play just about anything.

I'm seeing the broken IFO without doing any cropping.

I made a post about this a while back also. I get errors from ifoedit on dvdshrink files.
