O.K. Here we go a M8 of mine has done DVD's with both IC and DVD2ONE both latest versions.

The question i would like answered is does IC output a diffrent structured final DVD image than DVD2ONE.

The reason i ask is because his player will not play a DVD encoded with IC (Full Disk) but will play the same DVD encoded with DVD2ONE (Movie Only).

IC encoded image is Burned with IC's own Burning tool.
DVD2ONE encoded image is Burned with Prassi PrimoDVD.

Both using the same type of DVD-R.

I would like to inquire the same too with DVD95Copy. Just recently, I did a DVD using DVD95Copy and produced a "Cannot play disk" error on my standalone. I went and reprocessed the backup using DVD2One's full disk option and size set at 9000MB. New backup with same media now works.

BTW, I used current Imgtools checked with reallocation and with current Nero API.

@Digi

Are you using the updated version of InstantCopy? I ask, because the updated version adds the AUDIO_TS folder to your project (which some DVD set tops need), while the version out-of-the-box does not. The version you did with DVD2ONE would have had to have been burned using seperate software -- like maybe Nero, right? -- and such a program would be likely to give you that folder. You could download the latest patch (from the Pinnacle Support web page, or use one of the many links posted on this forum) and see if that doesn't solve your problem.

Hope this helps!

Yes using the latest versions of both Software and adding the AUDIO_TS folder Manually on the Burned DVD2ONE project.

As far as the AUDIO_TS folder goes i think you will find there are a lot of Original DVD's that dont have this folder in place on the Disk and these films Play Perfectly on all my Machines so i think we can rule that one out.

Like i have previously said i think it is related to how IC outputs the Final written DVD code in the VIDEO_TS folder which must vary from how DVD2ONE outputs its Folder.

**As far as the AUDIO_TS folder goes i think you will find there are a lot of Original DVD's that dont have this folder in place on the Disk and these films Play Perfectly on all my Machines so i think we can rule that one out.**

Sure; some DVDs use a blank folder that's labeled JACKET_TS, or they have extra folders for the DVD ROM content, software players, or what have you. I'm sure that you could create a blank file and name it "DUMB_OL_BLANK_FILE" if'n you felt like it, and it'd play. I'm not exactly sure what the benifit (if any) is to including the AUDIO_TS folder into a copy... someone on this forum said something about the way the burning software writes the tracks, and that may well be it. I do, however, bring this up because I had problems getting InstantCopy projects to play on my parents' set top before the update patch became availible. Now, it's no problem. This may be an entirely unrelated issue, maybe not; since commercial disks are pressed rather than burned, maybe adding the AUDIO_TS folder (or a file by any other name, with or without actual content) forces the burning engine to more closely replicate what you'd find on the original.

*Shrugs* But that's only guesswork on my part.

Either way, though, if you're using the newest version, then, yep; we can rule out the AUDIO_TS folder. I'm not sure exactly how InstantCopy does its job, other than it's an encoder, whereas DVD2ONE is merely a compression engine which can author new IFOs to enable the "movie only" mode. Maybe MISTERX or MRBASS can answer this one. Sorry 'bout that, and good luck to ya.

It's possible that IC7 is creating a video stream in some instances. I have one disc (Battle Royale: Special Edition, Japanese R2, 1:85 anamorphic), which simply wouldn't create a main movie video size over 3.8 gigs no matter how much I played with the settings. When I would attempt to load the video I demuxed from the new IC7 set into any of my authoring programs, it would give me "PTS greater than GOP" and the file would be rejected. Burning the files that IC7 created resulted in my set top player rejecting it.. although it would play on my PC drives.

Strangely enough, If I authored a new dvd using the original elementary streams from the disc with the new menus and subtitles, then used IC7 to compress it from the files created by my authoring program, I would get valid elementary streams that could be re-authored *sometimes*. I finally got an acceptable stream although there is about 200 megs of wasted space which I hope can be remedied in the future.

The original main movie vts size w/one audio stream was a little over 5 gigs, so I ended up with a 25% reduction. DVD2One created a more accurate video size, but even with the additional space the quality wasn't nearly as good as the undersized IC7 video.
