I want to make an audio-only SVCD.

Why ? Because I want to listen to CD's with Quad or Surround sound, but can't play DTS-CD's.

So I encoded the audio to MPEG 2 5.1, which my DVD-player is able to play.

What is the best way to make an SVCD with only audio on it ? I have tried two ways so far:
- Make a movie with only one image, which is played for the entire length of the audio.
- Make an SVCD with an mpg-still followed by the audio-track (muxed without video to a program stream using TMPGenc). You have to add the audio track as an mpeg still using VCDeasy.

Problem with the first option: This costs a lot of space on the SVCD for a movie that has only 1 picture. My player sometimes hicks during playback if I make the video bitrare to low.

Problem with the second option: I can't add chapters for tracks & time is not displayed on the DVD player.

Is there a way to create an SVCD with only audio, as less video as possible, with a possibility to create chapters ?

I've made a VCD with 46min. real video and 6h18min audio(encoded in Dia-Show with sound), all in one CD-R 80min. See(sorry only in German):

To ensure the chapter points and time display, you have to encode it in a real video stream, nothing else possible. So the only question is how to keep the video stream as low as possible...

During playback of my VCD I've not noticed any problem, the 378 minutes dia-show worked in my dvd players(mustek/yukai/cyberhome)perfectly for me. So I dont understand what you meen "sometimes hicks"?

Thanks, I will certainly try this.

Deutsch ist kein problem.

It seems that my player (Philips 752) sometimes has problems with svcd's that are not fully made to svcd-standards. Sometimes the movie stops for a second and then continues. For movies this is not a big problem, but if there's only audio it's annoying.

Eventhou you could get a working clip on a special dvd player, it is better to create a real DD5.1 DVD which will be played back on all dvd player without any "hicks". The dvd burner and the dvd-r are very cheap now and it is more ecnormic than CD-R. The cheapst DVD-R(jet in good quality, I've tested on many, many player without rejection): VivaStar unlabled, 0.99 EUR, the cheapst CD-R 700MB 0.25 - 0.30 EUR, but you can put 6-7 times data on a DVD-R with the best error correction. The the data on VCD/SVCD have very poor error correction so in principle you cannt reuse it if you want later.
