View Full Version : Can't backup Monsters inc with ic702 or dvdshrink103

Hi,

I've got the deluxe 2cd set of Monsters inc. I only want to backup the first DVD because that is the only one my kids always use.
It contains 6 gb of data after ripping with dvd-decryptor. In IC7 it shows only 4.8 gb of data, there is no way I can find the other data back.
In DVD-shrink it mentions: unreferenced audio and or subpicture streams in this title, they will be removed during re-encoding.

The first audio tracks are like this:
1. 6 ch AC3
2. 6 ch DTS
3. 2 ch AC3 direct. comment.
4. 6 ch AC3 no voices

When I Reauthor the movie only including all the sounds and subs, The burned DVD starts fine in PowerDVD but in my Philips DVD733K it starts with the directors comment and the first track doesn't get any sound.
I tried ripping different tracks, but it just doesn't want to start with the right sound. I prefer to rip the first track, so it always starts with the DTS one.

Does somebody know how to solve this?

I have the regular edition R2, not familiar with R4 (New Zealand)
If I were you, and had encountered the weird situation you mention, I would try ripping in DVD Decrypter IFO mode, and strip it, keeping only the audios I need. Then make new IFO for the "stripped version" (we're talking movie only) and if I wanted the DTS frst, I would do a search for 2COOL's guides for remapping audios.
As I am at work :) :) :) now, I cannot check the actual DVD, but experience tells me that almost all Disney films don't need re-encoding.
But then again, I may be talking nonsense :)

Arianos:

If I used dvddecrypter in ifo mode and strip the unwanted stuff, vreated new IFOs in ifoedit and processed it in dvd2one, the output of dvd2one is consistently bigger than 4.37GB. it is always close to 5GB. I tried 3 diff movies this way and the dvd2one output was anywhere between 4.5GB and 4.9GB.

Funny enough, I found the answer somewhere on the internet where a message from this board was quoted:-)

The problem is probably fixed after ripping the dvd in file mode and then stripping id 1 and 2 from vob 9.
Vob 9 contains a fake beginning with no sound, this part is only played when the dvd is ripped and stripped.
I haven't tested the image on my standalone dvd player yet. I'll do that tomorrow, it is too late now. I'm starting to fall asleep.

Thanks for the replies anyway.

The R2 disc 1 of Monsters Inc had a bogus vob-id=1 with, as was said above, no audio track. What this means is that if you don't realise this you lose space, but if you use DVD2AVI and CCE then it gets really screwed up and causes real problems if you haven't noticed what is going on. Therefore, and it was a few months ago so I can't remember the exact details, I used ifoedit to strip out just vob-id=1. This left a disc which was a little bit over the 4.38 Gb - at the time (before all of the new software) you could either take the easy route and dump the DTS soundtrack, leaving loads of space, or as I did, just compress the studio logo, copyright, dts setup stuff etc and make it fit. Now it'll be a doddle but you might as well remove vob-id=1 then use IC or dvdshrink and make sure that the movie is set as 100% and compress the menus etc.

I just burned the dvd with id 1 and 2 of vob 9 removed. It is perfect with powerdvd but on my standalone it still starts with the commentary audio track and the DTS one doesn't give sound.
When I use the original in my player and I switch the sound a couple of times, the sound of the DTS track is gone as well. Weird.

At least I can change the sound of the backup to the AC3 one, but it is annoying that it starts with the wrong sound track.
Is there a way to fix this?
