I am a IC noob. Have used DVD2One but wanted to chkout the improved quality of IC.
I use DVDShrink to remove unwanted audio streams and remove credits, startup logos etc and feed the movie only (no menus or extras) to IC for processing.
I just downloaded the registery tools from MisterX's website (MisterX: thanks a bunch. lots of very useful info; really appreciate it).
to get to the magic number of 4.37GB, what should be the IC settings I should use? thx.

"to get to the magic number of 4.37GB, what should be the IC settings I should use? thx."
That's the question we'd all like answered.

There are no magic numbers yet to get to 4.37GB. Short answer-IC predictability is almost nil.
I would recommend prayers before conducting an IC run, followed by some sort of sacrifice (a sheep at the minimum, 20 virgins max) to the DVD backup solutions Gods, as well as a polytheistic dance ritual. If you're getting over or undersized IC results, it is because the Gods have been angered and demand further sacrifice.

Guys,
Like ive said in two other posts, its NO BIG deal if you get an oversize with IC7. Just use DVD2one/IFOUPDATE/IFOEdit and reduce your extras or main movie to make it get to 4.37 gig. Its fast, effective, and easy. Trust me, if I say it's easy, then it is LOL...cause Im a dumbarse.

almost nil is slightly over the top, cos movie only is actually even easier to predict than 1:1 as long as the black bars ain't anything bigger than the ones in an anamorphic 1.85 DVD's bars
2.35:1 is a little harder and sometimes impossible for movie only unless it a long movie to begin with. I just did Pearl Harbour last night and it came out at a nice 4.35GB :)
last time I struggled with IC was Fawly Towers series 2 (4:3) just after the new update and modded the reg settings. The 1st series had been set to 4.54Gb and came out just right so I tried abouut the same with 2nd series and it came out well oversized!. I set it to 4.42 to get 4.37Gb and it's the same for the Simpsons which also dropped dramatically after the update & reg mods, mostly due to reg
but that's about it as most since have been simple enough to work out, so now you musta guessed I'm making loadsa sacrifices to the Backup Gods :D
I just wish I could pass my success on cos I can realise how frustrating it will be when it spits out anything it feels like if you don't babysit the stupid program and I sympathise with you guys getting random results :(
doing a 1:1 using IC I religously spend 5-10 mins investigating and recording sizes & content before processing, sniffing out any abnormalities, and I feel it's worth it for the sizing accuracy and the extra quality results I get :D
I would just use CCE for most DVD's if I thought that IC was just a lottery and a waste of effort like some feel it is
yes it's incorrect with the end results but for me it's always within a specific margin on the majority of occasions

MisterX:
Can you answer my original question re IC settings. I am NOT doing extras or menus. Movie only.... Thx.

you have chopped end credits which will probably increase the accuracy of IC
with a DVDSaveQuality of 0 and DVDAnalyseMaxRel of at least 10% normally I would add 1% for fullscreen content and 5 % to anamorphic to the predicted size of the VIDEO-ONLY
all letterbox and 2.35:1 anamorphic movies are dodgy ground unless they are the epics like Gladiator etc
seeing as you have chopped credits then I would add around 3.5-4% just to be safe
so if for a 1.85:1 anamorphic IC predicts the final video will be 3.9Gb at a total setting of 4.37GB then I would add 3.5% of 3.9Gb to 4.37GB
3.5% is 0.13, so I would use 4.50Gb and expect somewhere in the region of 4.37Gb
if I wanted to be sure I would just add 3%
the more you do the more you get used to what to set it at :D
