hi ! I have a question, most DVD authoring programs I've used so far have a good? ( bad for me in this case ) problem(s)

1. they dont allow direct use of VOBs
2. if you have the elemental streams ( m2v,sound ) they check for DVD compatibility when importing/muxing the files.

I know about the DVD compatible video streams ntsc 720/704/480/352x480/240 for DVD's, but a few weeks ago I got a movie that came in 3 CDs ( a SVCD movie ), well being a lazy A$$ as I am, I tought, let's try to make a DVD with the original MPG2s that come on the SVCD ( 480x480 ) to see if it plays in my standalone player, so I mounted the images on daemon tools, extracted the MPG2 files, demuxed them, then I created the VOBS with IfoEdit, then Erased all the bups and ifos, so I ended with 3 VOBS ( one for each CD ).

Then with VOBedit I joined the 3 VOBS, and used IfoEdit Again to create new IFO files, then to test I created an ISO file and mounted it as a DVD with the daemon tools, and played it using POWERVCR, and well it worked fine, so I burned the image in a DVD-RW and tested it on my standalone, and well, lucky me, it worked!! ( looks like my standalone dosen't care much for the compatibility as long as they are mpg2 files with a DVD format it will play it )

well as you might imagine now that I tested 480x480 on the standalone, I can fit 2 movies on one DVD-R with a good quality ( SVCD ), I could also add subtitles and other audios and blah blah blah. but the point is that as everyone knows when you create new IFO files with IFOedit, you end up with just a stream of the movie, and if you ask for a new PGC for each VOBid, you'll end up with 1 chapter for each CD ( doing it the way I did ), now the problem is that I want to create menus for this kind of dvds, but as I stated Before:

All the programs I have do not allow loading VOBS as assets
:( , and If I load the elementary streams I have one of 2 problems, either I get "this stream is not DVD compatible" or they load it, but when I want to make the image they reencode the file to make it "dvd compatible".

What I need is a software that either allows me to create menus with my VOBS, or a software that does not check for "compatibility", and do not reencode.

now what software can do it ?

or some Ideas on how to create a menu, store it on a VOB then re-link it with IFOEDIT to the appropiate pgcs of the vobs.

or any Idea that allows me to create menus without all the "compatibility" issues. TYVMIA

Ok, It's not polite to leave the question unanswered,:) if you have found a parcial ( at least ) answer, I grabbed a copy of DVD-Lab, and open a MPV (480x480) elementary stream, it gave me a warning but allowed me to continue, now I had the audio as MP2 44KHZ, it told me that I needed to use 48KHZ audio, so I converted it, ( DVD-LAB ) has a conversor, but It hang up everytime I tried, so I used, besweet, authored the DVD, and well so far I have played it with WMP, and PowerDVD, with no problems, I have to burn it on a DVD-RW to test it on my standalone but I guess it'll work, I still want to author directly from the VOBs so as I said this is a partial answer, anyother suggestions are wellcome. :D

Since its not polite to leave a question unanswered, I ll guide u in finding a thread that was discussed a little while ago and involved the usage of Restream in order to patch the resolution from 480x480 to 720x480, fooling the authoring program to believe that is being fed with a compatible video

oddyseus, Ok I tried Restream, I also had tried another program that does the same, DVDPatcher, but in both programs I get the same, Ok I can feed it to any DVD authoring program, but what do I do with the green 240x480 patch that I get to the left of my video ?, I have not done a VOB with the MPV Restreamed file, cause well, I don't think the green part will dissapear, maybe cropping will fix it, but one issue that I should have mentioned is speed, I just want to be able to xtract the MPG file of some SVCDS, and do not touch the sources other than to demultiplex->remultiplex, and be burning my DVD-R in like 20 mins or so.

has other people experienced with restream or DVDPatcher or other header changing software ? do you get the green area ?, if so how do you fix it ( fast ) ?

Tyvm Oddyseus.

PD. I searched the forum for about 2 days  using all search items I tought could answer my question, but no luck ! :(, more ideas, comments ?
