A question regarding Divx capable DVD Player

I see most of divx-capable dvd players can only play Divx ver4 and above. My backups however were mostly done by gknot+divx3.11 alpha. Should I start using divx5 instead to make sure they are compatible with upcoming players?

Even just using Divx5+ will not assure that it will be playable on all players. But either 5.x+ or Xvid yes.
