I'm trying to get the DVD decryptor/DIF4U/DCCE4U/Scenarist method of backing up DVD9's to work. I'm using the guide on this website with Training Day as my movie. As far as I can tell, everything runs smoothly until the final step with IFOedit. I get an error message "Improper VIDEO_TS.IFO file. ABORTING." When I compiled all of my DVD files, the VIDEO_TS.IFO file came from the original DVD.
When I try to run the movie anyway with PowerDVD4, all I get is the WB logo, and then the playback stops. All the individual VOBs play fine. Sorry to all if I'm just missing something stupid, but can anyone help?
Thanks.

Apparantly this is because of a missing signature at the beginning of the IFO file but why are you opening the Video_TS file in IFOupdate anyway - shouldn't you be opening VTS_01_1.IFO or whichever belongs to your main title set?

Thanks for your reply. I did open up the VTS_02_0.IFO file in ifoupdate, but I checked "autocorrect VTS sectors," and I think that's when the VIDEO_TS file came into play. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix the problem? Thanks again.

I think you're selecting the wrong files in IFOUpdate. The original IFO needs to be the one you ripped with DVD Decrypter and the Authored IFO should be the one created by Scenarist.

Thanks for your help. I thought I had searched the forum for applicable threads, but I guess I missed it. Sorry. I know that's kind of taboo here. I'll use the advice for my next project. On a related note, how big a difference in quality is there between the CCE method and the Instant Copy method (which I have recently resorted to out of frustration)? Also, is there a way to get rid of the Cinema Craft Encoder logo in the output VOBs? Thanks again.

The difference in CCE quality to IC is quite large, in my opinion. Some will say they can't tell the difference but these people are either encoding a movie which is under 90mins with no extras or watching it on a 3.5" LCD screen.
IC however makes the DVD ripping process incredibly easy, almost pleasant - its so quick and painless. I have to say I prefer DVD2One for both quality and file size over IC but where ever possible I will use CCE.
The logo on CCE can be removed by purchasing the software :D
