Can someone help me get a .mpg file to be played in a DVD player? The file is close to 4GB and I have tried programs such as Nero and others and get an error the file is too large for the format. How can I go about doing this? Please

You will need to demux this MPEG into *.mpv and *.mpa and feed it through an authoring app like Scenarist or Maestro. This is assuming it is already DVD compliant - if not you will have to find some way to re-encode it.
Alternatively, depending on the length of the movie and the quality desired, you could just downsample it to be VCD/SVCD compliant.

It is a wedding video that I taped through Sage TV from an mpeg2 Provideo card. My friend wants to keep the best quality he can I told him I would try and get it on a DVD through my system. I also have a DVD-r writer. Thanks for the reply.

What are the specifications of the MPEG file? Resolution, audio format/bitrate etc?

As idbirch2 asked, it is important to establish the specifications of the MPEG stream, in order to see if they are compatible with the DVD specification, for authoring purposes. If they are not, then don't panic cos there are ways and means of dealing with the problem. I, like idbirch2, await your posting of the specifications, but in the meantime, I should point out that a new DVD-authoring program, 'DVDlab', has been deliberately coded to allow the use of some non-DVD-spec MPEG streams to nevertheless be authored into a DVD structure for burning and playback on some standalones. It might be worth looking at the beta which can be downloaded from MediaChance.com, but either way, there is plenty of help available here on the forums, should you experience difficulty.
Do get back to us first, with your MPEG stream specs, before you try to author, as we may be able to save you a great deal of time & frustration! :)

Thannks for the feedback. What makes a mpeg file DVD compliant? Can I use Restream or another tool to make the mpeg file compliant?
The video is encoded at 6000k constant bitrate with 384k audio.
Res 704x480 4:3 aspect ratio. framrate 29.970.
I split it in tmpeg and and showed a check boxs for padding for which I left alone. Now I have two files .m2v and the audio file. I bring up the audio file in Restream and I received the above information.
