OK I'm using:

1 DVDdecrypter, to rip my DVDs,

2 then I use Instant Copy 7 to transcode.

3 After that I use pdi2iso to change it over to iso format,

4 then I load the iso into my image drive and then cut and paste the VIDEO_TS file back to my C: drive,

5 then I create a AUDIO_TS file and use Gear Pro to burn to cd.

Yeah I know that there are probably a lot of steps I can skip, but I have been working from different guides inorder to find a way to keep all the contents of the DVD, rather than just the main movie, as I have been doing for a while. Anyhow, all the DVDs that I have done in this way, when I play them in my PS2, they will toward the end of the movie start skipping and then stop playing all together. When I play in my computer they will play all the way thriough with no problem. I've tried the original disks and they play just fine, it's only the backups. I haven't gotten a chance to get to my friends house and play them on his standalone to see if they play through on this. I'm assuming it's either the process I'm using, the media, although I've used the same discs for every movie I've burned, around 10, and this never happened until this new process, or the crappy PS2 DVD function. I would like any help that anyone could provide. Thanks.

I had the same problem when I first started burning DVD-Rs. Can't say I tried them on my PS2 but in my Pioneer stand-alone the movies played fine till the last few chapters when the movie would start pausing/resuming and getting that horrible blocky corruption that usually happens on scratched discs - this just got too annoying to watch any further.

Since then I have discovered that cheap DVD-R discs are pure crap. People can whine all they like about the "flawless" results on Princo/Ritek but if you want a disc thats going to work on several devices AND last longer than a few months you have to pay a little extra.

My advice - ditch the cheap media. I suspect the problem will miraculously go away if you start using say, Verbatims.

You don't mention what speed you're burning at - I assume its 1x, if not try it.

Let the Ritek whining commmence....

Yeah media can be the problem, but have you tried to use another burning software? Try Recordnow max or you can just burn your ISO direct using DVD Decrypter!

First of all yes I burn at 1x speed, just to be cautious. The brand of DVDs I use are called General DVD-R. They were 5 for 10 bucks, when I picked up my DVD burner. I wasn't planning on moving up to the more expensive brands until I had gotten the hang of the DVD ripping process. Also the DVDs that I have burned using my first method, which rips out all the menus and leaves only the movie and chapter points they work all the way through without stopping.

No I haven't. I use Gear Pro because I read that it was the only DVd software that would burn DVDs that would be play in most stand alones and PS2s. I really need them to be playable in a PS2 as that is the only DVD player I have for my TV.

I don't know the current exchange rate but 5 for $10 is about the price of good media now. 2x Verbatims in the UK are down to £1.30 each at the moment.

It sounds like you've got the hang of it - I'd get some good quality discs and try them - it will only cost a few extra $ to find out if this is the cause of all the hassle

I burn PS2 games with my 105 and I did get cheap (Ritek etc) media to play on the PS2 but they were unreliable when booting and after a couple of months refused to boot at all. Verbatims are the best discs to use for PS2 playback - the PS2 laser loves 'em and they last.

I had the same problem with cheap media : in fact, they play very well on my computer - and on another - but on my standalone player, the sound stop suddenly, and I have many squares on screen, video seems sometimes be "idle".
I've changed the media and all is running ok. (for info, I use Nero)
