I am new to xvid but perused the faqs and threads here... (i found a matching thread but thier solution is not my solution)... so... here it goes.

I get the -100 fatal error in VD when i try to do a 2-pass, 1st pass. I have not got to test 2nd pass of course, but CBR 1 pass works (although it shows me I need some experiance to get anything near divx5 q). I tried this with the plain default settings (just selected 2-pass 1st pass). I am using Nics 30.03 bin.

FYI: the doom9 codecs comparison is a 404in me.

Have you set the dir and name of the stats file?Note that you have to write test.stats for example. You need to write the extension. It doesnt have an autocomplete for the extension

About CBR:
Divx5 has quite different defaults than XviD.

- set XviD's averaging & smoothing to 250 both
- restrict XviD's quantizer to 12 max for I and P frames, or, alternatively, allow quantizers up to 31 for divx5 ;)

Then compare again ...

Oh shucks :o

Make sure everyone, that you have WRITE access to C: or whatever. :p This one could have boggled me for years hehe. I didn't think about where it was writing stats.
